Weekend breaks in the UK

The joy of holidaying in the United Kingdom is that you can reach almost anywhere with only a day's travel and discover some of the country’s greatest treasures over the course of a weekend. If you're planning a weekend break in the UK, there’s no better way to make the trip your own than a luxury holiday cottage that puts you in proximity to an array of exciting landmarks, attractions and natural environments.

Incredible experiences on your doorstep

You'll find Crabtree & Crabtree holiday cottages across Yorkshire, Northumberland, the Scottish Borders and East Lothian, ideally situated for trips to a range of fascinating locations and areas of breath-taking natural beauty.

And when it comes to weekend breaks, UK destinations are limited only by your imagination. Take strolls through the rolling Yorkshire Dales, tour the Northumbrian coast, or visit one of the charming market towns of the Scottish Borders and East Lothian. Weather permitting, you could head to the beach: our dog-friendly beaches are some of the most picturesque in the country and hold plenty of opportunities to sunbathe, swim, find the perfect picnic spot and even windsurf. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, try your hand at coasteering or rock climbing for a different perspective on the many cliffs, coves and inlets that run the length of the coast.

Plan your adventure

Weekend activity ideas in the northeast include the 11th century Alnwick Castle which is located in the medieval town of Alnwick and hosts a schedule of colourful events throughout the year. Nearby, villages like Alnmouth and Bamburgh give visitors a chance to absorb coastal culture, including opportunities to sample local seafood cuisine. For explorers, the Northumberland Coast Path runs all the way to the Scottish Borders and can be split into sections that are perfect for a memorable day's walk. Looking out across the region, particularly interesting stops on your weekend away might include the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, home to a 7th century monastery, and Hadrian’s Wall, the remnants of which mark the ancient Roman frontier with Scotland.

The Scottish Borders is also a haven for weekend adventurers, with its own fair share of historic monuments, castles, and attractions. Those include the beautiful 12th century Melrose Abbey, the imposing 13th century Hermitage Castle, and Abbotsford, the ancestral home of 19th century novelist Sir Walter Scott. The Borders is famed for its dramatic rolling hills, forests, and valleys, so you’ll never need to look far for a sightseeing opportunity during your stay. Looking only a little further north, you could even take a day trip into Midlothian during your weekend, and visit the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.

Luxury and comfort

Whether you’re planning a fun-filled family break, a birthday dinner party, a romantic getaway with a loved one, or simply seeking solitude from the hustle and bustle of modern life, your weekend in a Crabtree & Crabtree property promises to be special. Curl up on plush sofas, relax in an immaculate garden, or cook an extravagant meal in a beautifully-appointed kitchen: our holiday cottages are designed to be an indulgent home away from home for every guest, if only for the weekend.
