This pretty Northumbrian cottage has been reinvented with a sophisticated new look, with plenty of space for couples or families to spread out and relax after a day of coastal exploring.

Sitting in the heart of the pretty village of Lesbury, this three bedroom property has plenty to offer those seeking a charming, coastal base.

The ground floor benefits from two reception rooms with lovely original features, including characterful inglenook fireplaces, ledge and brace doors, and oak beams. This is enhanced by soft natural tones and warm textures in heritage leather and tweed which give the cottage a sophisticated but understated elegance.

The kitchen benefits from the warming heart of an AGA, granite work surfaces and integrated appliances in a modern shaker style. This leads into a utility room and a private rear courtyard which is perfect for outdoor dining when the temperature starts to rise.

The harmonious scheme continues upstairs with two en-suite bedrooms, one with a super-impressive bathroom, and a separate double bedroom which offers a perfectly framed view of the village bowling green. All beds are finished with the finest duck down duvets when winding down and restful sleep sounds like a good plan.

The cosy, country pub The Coach Inn is just a short stroll from the cottage in the centre of Lesbury – a great spot for a relaxing drink or hearty pub meal after a beach walk or country hike (Open Wednesday – Sunday).

Location

Something of a hidden gem in the Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the pretty coastal village of Alnmouth is nestled along the north bank of the River Aln estuary. Dubbed the Tobermory of Northumberland, pastel-coloured cottages line the waterfront while the sweeping golden sands of Alnmouth beach are perfect for walks away from the crowds amidst diverse birdlife.

The village offers a lively selection of pubs, restaurants, independent shops, and galleries and hosts numerous events through the year, including the summer Arts Festival and the Beer Festival in October. Fast trains from Edinburgh and London stop at Alnmouth train station just over a mile outside the village, making it an ideal place for a coastal getaway without a car.

The historic town of Alnwick lies just five miles down the road, where you’ll find several welcoming pubs, a farmer's market, and the popular attractions of Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden. Further popular spots along the Northumbrian coastline are also within easy reach, such as Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands which is seasonally populated by hundreds of seals and puffins.

The Little Things We Love

The en-suite master bedroom has a luxurious edge with a lavish bath tub for those who enjoy a good soak.

Don't take our word for it...

A beautiful, homely cottage, recently refurbished, in a charming village with lovely community pub and local store. The decor, furniture and amenities were to a very high standard. Lots of thoughtful touches. Really impressed with our first experience of a Crabtree and Crabtree cottage. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Don't take our word for it...

What an amazing time we have had at Bowls Cottage! The owner went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, we hosted a family party and she arranged for additional chairs and a table to be left as well as helping to arrange that the food all went to plan. We were blown away by her and her teams wonderful hospitality - thank you!

Don't take our word for it...

We had a fantastic week in Bowls Cottage. Property was immaculate and furnished to a very high standard with everything provided to make our stay very comfortable. The AGA was amazing, it kept the cottage lovely and warm and was also great to cook with. The managers were very helpful and friendly. The service we received from Crabtree and Crabtree was first class, any questions we had were dealt with promptly from a friendly and efficient member of staff.

Don't take our word for it...

We had a wonderful holiday at Bowls Cottage where we stayed with our two grown up grandchildren. Our eldest grandchild is about to go away to Colorado to study and live, so we took the opportunity for the four of us to spend quality time together and we couldn't have picked a better place. We have previously stayed in Millers Cottage as a couple which was equally as pleasant and one to which we will no doubt return. The cottage had everything we needed and more and the beds were very comfortable - always important. The area is beautiful and Alnmouth is a place that we never tire of visiting although we may try something new in the future with Crabtree and Crabtree as I am sure the quality of the premises will be guaranteed. Thank you once again for a wonderful holiday property.

Don't take our word for it...

We had a fantastic stay and there is so much to do in the area! I would particularly recommend cycling. We bought the Northumbria Cycle map and there is so much easy off road cycling from the cottage, both for gentle touring as well as real cycle tours. A fabulous cycle is from the cottage on national cycle route 1, south to Warkworth and onto Amble, then back either the same way or inland – stunning views, easy cycle paths, gorgeous villages – easily signposted and not too strenuous, plenty of places to stop for coffee.

Don't take our word for it...

We had such a wonderful stay in Bowls Cottage - I keep meaning to email to say how perfect it was. We were super super pleased with the house. It was our first time in Northumberland (we live in Dorset) and we fell in love with it. We spent most of our days on the coast but then discovered the National Park on the last day - gosh so stunning.
Dorey family, 18th March 2024

Don't take our word for it...

We were lucky enough to spend Christmas at Bowls Cottage recently. As usual, everything was perfect and the housekeeper, was so helpful. She ensured we had a plentiful supply of logs and coffee pods and that we had everything we could possibly need. A big thank you to her for 4 lovely visits to this property in the last 18 months.
Mr & Mrs Lewis, 18th March 2024

Don't take our word for it...

Bowls Cottage you were all that you promised to be and didn’t disappoint. The cottage is wonderfully decorated, very clean and to have toiletries was the icing on the cake. We will definitely be returning to Bowls Cottage.
