Set in an idyllic rural position, the cottages at Crookhouse offer outstanding, far reaching views over the Cheviots and the Northumberland National Park.

On the ground floor a spacious open plan kitchen and dining room has a sun room to one end offering fabulous views over the hills. A cosy sitting room has a log burner for the winter months.

For larger parties, College Cottage and Bowmont Cottage have a lockable interlinking door which is ideal for two families holidaying together accommodating up to 12 guests. Both cottages open onto terraces where guests can enjoy a barbecue whilst admiring the incredible sunsets or a spectacular star-gazing treat.

For many it is the magical setting, breathtaking views and wealth of stunning countryside to explore from the doorstep that make these cottages stand out. Set at the end of a private road high up on the Lanton Estate, the setting is incredibly peaceful and the perfect place to unwind, relax and enjoy the countryside - be it on two legs, four legs or two wheels!

There is ample private parking close to the cottage.

Location

Despite Lanton’s rural location there are good local amenities nearby. The estate is seven miles from the pretty town of Wooler which offers a good range of independent shops including two excellent butchers, a very good delicatessen, several pubs and cafes and the Milan Restaurant. Cornhill on Tweed is eight miles from the estate and offers an excellent village shop selling pies and delicious local goodies and the Collingwood Arms which has a lively bar and restaurant specialising in dishes prepared using the wealth of local produce on offer. More extensive shopping including a good range of independent shops, pubs and restaurants are available at Kelso 14 miles away.

Some of the cleanest and emptiest beaches in England can be found on Northumberland's spectacular Heritage Coastline nearby. One of our favourite spots is Bamburgh Beach, with miles of pristine sand nestled behind huge sand dunes. At low tide take a trip across the causeway to the mystical Holy Island of Lindisfarne or take a boat to the Farne Islands to see the resident colonies of Grey Seals and an impressive array of birdlife including Puffins.

The Little Things We Love

The idyllic, rural position high above the College Valley ensures peace and tranquility.

Don't take our word for it...

What a sight to greet you on your approach - fantastic! A welcoming gift pack on arrival, the cottage so beautifully set out. The location to die for, peace and tranquillity, words cannot describe! A piece of heaven on earth. I could not fault this cottage if I tried. The lambs and calves in the neighbouring fields were such a delight to see each day. It was so sad to leave on our last day! We look forward to our next visit. An amazing holiday, thank you so much!

Just to let you know that we enjoyed Bowmont Cottage immensely and didn't want to leave! The layout of the cottage and decor was superb, additional touches such as the food and flowers really appreciated and the view, well just stunning. We were really comfortable. Many thanks to Crabtree & Crabtree. So pleased we discovered your website and will certainly be in touch when we next venture up to Northumberland.

Don't take our word for it...

We had a fantastic stay which we extended from 3 to 4 nights. Bowmont Cottage is just perfect for a real away from it all escape. The views were just spectacular and it was lovely to sit and watch the wildlife. We hope to return in the summer to enjoy a BBQ and let the warmth and sun flood into the cottage.

I celebrated a wonderful 80th birthday with my family at Bowmont and College cottages. Everything in the cottages was of the highest order and the location was spectacular. Even the weather was amazingly benign for mid-February. Many thanks for giving us a great holiday.

We had an absolutely brilliant time at the gorgeous Bowmont Cottage on the Lanton Estate - thank you. The dogs particularly enjoyed the ford just past Coupland Castle.
