Heatherslaw Light Railway, nestled near Ford in Northumberland, offers a serene railway experience amidst picturesque countryside near the Scottish border. This charming railway features nostalgic steam locomotives like ‘Lady Augusta’ and ‘Bunty’, traversing a scenic route alongside the River Till. Passengers can enjoy tranquil views of Northumberland’s lush landscapes and Cheviot Hills during the leisurely 6.4km round trip between Heatherslaw and Etal Castle, complete with options for fully enclosed or partly glazed coaches for all-weather comfort.
Operational from late March to early November, Heatherslaw Light Railway invites visitors to explore Heatherslaw Corn Mill, a working water mill and heritage museum, before discovering local attractions at the Ford & Etal Visitor Centre. Break your journey at Etal to visit the historic Etal Castle or explore the picturesque Etal Village with its charming tearooms and inns. Special events, including the festive Santa specials in December, add to the allure of this family-friendly destination, welcoming dogs aboard for an inclusive railway adventure in Northumberland’s countryside.
