Only a short distance from Alnwick, lies the colourful village of Alnmouth. As its name suggests, the village is sits at the mouth of the River Aln, where it meets the North Sea. Once a small but thriving fishing hub, Alnmouth, is now better known for its pretty pastel-hued houses and miles of expansive sandy beaches.
Tranquil and scenic, Alnmouth is situated within one of Northumberland’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is home to an abundance of wildlife including swooping seabirds such as oystercatchers and sandpipers and well as strutting grey herons. There is also a good golf course – the 4th oldest in the England – a number of excellent local pubs and independent shops and galleries, and a wealth of coastal paths and walking trails including St Oswald’s Way and the North Sea Trail routes.
Set in the beautiful surrounding countryside, our Alnmouth holiday cottages enjoy picture-perfect beachside settings and sweeping views. With the sea on their doorstep, there are plenty of water-based activities to enjoy in Alnmouth. Surfing, kite surfing and coasteering are popular among children and those keen to embrace the water and wide sandy beaches. There are also opportunities to sail from the sheltered harbour, while those interesting in fishing can while away their holidays salmon and sea trout fishing along the banks of the River Aln.
