Directly opposite Bamburgh Castle, this contemporary coastal apartment enjoys spectacular sea views and easy access to the beach.

Capitalising on one of the finest panoramas to be found on the Northumberland coastline, Two Castles is a three-bedroom apartment which lies just off the centre of Bamburgh Village and overlooks the cricket green. It sits on the second and third floors of Castle Garth, an Art and Crafts-inspired house that was built in the 1930s and more recently restored and developed to create eight luxurious apartments. Several excellent cafés, pubs and restaurants await in the village, while private, gated parking makes it easy to leave the car behind and explore the many fantastic walks on your doorstep – not least the spectacular Bamburgh beach which lies just a few minutes away.

Enter directly into the apartment’s open plan living space, decorated in neutral coastal tones and with wooden floors running throughout. The living area includes two large sofas and two comfy armchairs, perfect for hunkering down beside the TV and cosy log burner. Triple aspect windows capture the impressive views of Bamburgh Castle, the coast, and the cricket green, and fill the room with natural light. A dining table with seating for up to eight people completes the space which flows into the beautiful Shaker-style kitchen, where you’ll find an island with breakfast bar seating, granite countertops, and a Krups Dolce Gusto coffee machine.

The first bedroom is situated on this lower floor and features a super king size bed. With an ocean-blue quilted blanket and en suite Jack and Jill bathroom with a combined bath and shower, the room is elegant and understated. Head up the staircase in the living space to an upper landing, where you’ll find a quiet study area with a desk. On this floor, the second bedroom has a super king size bed topped with crisp white sheets, an en suite bathroom with a combined bath and shower, and a Juliet balcony to make the most of those sweeping sea views. Next door, the third bedroom features a super king size bed with sea foam-green textiles, which can also be configured to twins, complemented by a contemporary en suite shower room.

Outside, a well-maintained communal garden and terrace create the perfect place to enjoy the scenery on warmer days, with a private gate leading from the gardens to the public pathway. Although Two Castles isn’t suitable for canine companions, the apartment is an ideal base for families or groups of friends looking to explore Northumberland.

The village of Bamburgh is home to numerous independent pubs and restaurants, while the RNLI Grace Darling Museum commemorates the life of the celebrated Victorian heroine. A visit to the iconic Bamburgh Castle is a must, with its towering keep, formidable battlements, and excellent calendar of events. You can walk for miles along the pristine sandy beach and picnic in the dunes in the warmer months, or head further afield and discover the intriguing history of the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, just north of Bamburgh, or the popular village of Seahouses that lies just to the south.

Location

Guarded by the iconic Bamburgh Castle which rises from its volcanic promontory with an almost mythic authority, this charming village combines the best of Northumbrian hospitality with a stretch of coastline with AONB status. Miles of stunning white sands stretch beneath the castle, from which you can take in views of the wildlife-rich Farne Islands and the fascinating Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Perfect for long dog walks, games, or quiet reflection, it's no wonder this is one of the most beloved beaches in the country.

You can enjoy fantastic fresh seafood at several restaurants in the village, perhaps during a relaxed brunch or with a takeaway from the Walled Garden Café, while the numerous tearooms and ice-cream shops are perfect for afternoon treats. There are also several great pubs for cosying up by the fire with a drink in the evening.

The whole area is bursting with things to do, dotted with a trail of castles and fortifications interspersed with pretty seaside villages all the way up and down the coast. For day trips, why not cross the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to trace the legend of St Cuthbert, explore The Alnwick Garden, or take a boat trip from Seahouses to spot puffins and seals in the outstanding Farne Islands nature reserve and seabird sanctuary.
