Stylish, relaxed and seriously special, The Shieling has the feel of a Hamptons beach house. Wake to the smell of salty sea air and wander the exquisite sands of Bamburgh.

Enjoying an incredibly sought-after position on the edge of the dunes with iconic Bamburgh castle as the stunning backdrop, this is truly a home for all seasons where you can enjoy the lazy idle days of summer, or cosy-up in woolly jumpers on cooler days watching soaring kite surfers across the bay.

Step inside and you get the instant sense of home, each room filled with love and personality reflective of the owner’s own happy family times here. The overall look is one of relaxed, understated elegance combining a gentle palette of colours and fantastic artisan touches along with polished pebbles and seashells to create a calming coastal vibe.

The hand-crafted kitchen is a warm, welcoming space in restful blues with carefully selected tableware and high quality cookware from Le Creuset. This includes an inspired porthole window looking right through to the front aspect offering a sparkling glimmer of the sea beyond. A Rangemaster cooker and huge bespoke industrial corner fridge will ensure that all the catering needs of the party can be satisfied.

This extends into a smart dining space with shuttered windows looking onto the rear garden, allowing lovely get-togethers for up to six adults and four children. The generous sitting room forms an L-shape configuration allowing restful chat in front of the wood burner, or a corner nook offers a place to unwind on oversized linen sofas with a good book.

A light filled breakfast room reflects the colours of the sea with lovely reclaimed pieces in wood and glass along with fabrics from Manual Canovas - a perfect place for quiet contemplation cradling a morning coffee. Alternatively for a little more action, a large games room to the rear of the property is likely to be the social hub for teenagers.......and possibly the adults in the party too!

Location

Guarded by the iconic Bamburgh Castle which rises from its volcanic promontory with an almost mythic authority, this charming village combines the best of Northumbrian hospitality with a stretch of coastline with AONB status. Miles of stunning white sands stretch beneath the castle, from which you can take in views of the wildlife-rich Farne Islands and the fascinating Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Perfect for long dog walks, games, or quiet reflection, it's no wonder this is one of the most beloved beaches in the country.

You can enjoy fantastic fresh seafood at several restaurants in the village, perhaps during a relaxed brunch or with a takeaway from the Walled Garden Café, while the numerous tearooms and ice-cream shops are perfect for afternoon treats. There are also several great pubs for cosying up by the fire with a drink in the evening.

The whole area is bursting with things to do, dotted by a trail of castles and fortifications interspersed with pretty seaside villages all the way up and down the coast. For day trips, why not cross the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to trace the legend of St Cuthbert, explore The Alnwick Garden, or take a boat trip from Seahouses to spot puffins and seals in the outstanding Farne Islands nature reserve and seabird sanctuary.
