Located in the quintessentially English village of Harome in Ryedale, just off the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park, Applewood is a delightful single-level cottage for two. Accessed from a quiet lane at the edge of the village with views across pastoral fields, it’s a peaceful retreat from which to enjoy the many historic sites, thriving food scene, and stunning landscapes of North Yorkshire. Look forward to setting out on excellent walks straight from your doorstep, including along the banks of the nearby River Riccal in an area which is popular for birdwatching. For days out, hikers will enjoy the endless trails in the hills, while history enthusiasts are within easy reach of the grand Castle Howard and the magnificent city of York, which is less than an hour’s drive away.
The accommodation is all set on ground floor level and is fitted with cosy underfloor heating, keeping you warm and comfortable throughout the seasons. Enter the cottage into the open-plan living area, which is spacious and light with the very high, airy ceilings dotted with skylights. The modern kitchen includes ample counter space for preparing meals, as well as a Nespresso coffee machine for delicious morning coffees. Next to the kitchen, a circular dining table is joined by seating for four guests, creating an open and sociable space to relax and dine. Across the room, a comfortable seating area encompasses a wood burning stove, a TV, and collection of board games and books to keep you entertained in the evenings.
Outside, an enclosed gravelled and paved garden with raised beds lies beside the cottage, including a shaded dining area under a pergola with seating for four which is covered with climbing wisteria, roses, honeysuckle and grapevines. Peaceful and private, thanks to the cottage being tucked away from its neighbours behind hedges and planting, it’s a wonderfully shady and beautifully-scented spot to enjoy meals in the summertime. The large fields beyond the cottage invite relaxed walks and are excellent for birdwatching, including spotting Red Kites, while there are endless trails for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers in the nearby North York Moors National Park.

The cottage has an attractive, enclosed garden with gravelled and paved areas, raised planting beds and a pergola providing a shaded outdoor dining area with seating for four. An additional table and chairs for two guests and a charcoal barbecue (charcoal not provided) are also available.
Private parking for up to two cars is provided in the gravelled area adjacent to the cottage.

Harome is a pretty village situated on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire. The region offers a picturesque retreat with sweeping heather moorlands, ancient woodlands, and a dramatic Jurassic coastline. Home to charming market towns, a thriving food scene, and famously dark skies, it’s the perfect setting for busy and laid-back holidays alike, all surrounded by spectacular landscapes and historic sites.
Harome itself boasts Michelin-lauded restaurants, while the food offering in North Yorkshire is excellent with an incredible array of pubs, farm shops, restaurants and local produce on offer. The surrounding North York Moors National Park provides endless opportunities for walkers and cyclists, and there is impressive wildlife and birdlife to spot in the area with guided tours available.
Harome lies approximately 2.5 miles from the bustling market town of Helmsley, known for its medieval castle, brewery, and a handsome market square lined with independent shops, galleries, delicatessens and cafés. Helmsley is also home to a historic and very attractive five-acre Helmsley Walled Garden which has its own excellent café. For day trips a little further afield, Harome lies just one hour from Yorkshire’s heritage coastline and the fascinating cathedral city of York, where fascinating Roman and Viking history meets Gothic architecture.

Applewood is situated within the village of Harome. Neighbouring properties and the owner's adjoining garden are partially screened by mature hedging and planting, providing a good degree of privacy. To the other side of the cottage is a quiet lane used only for access by residents, beyond which are open fields.
