For over three centuries, Castle Howard has stood as a striking testament to architectural ambition and historical evolution. Construction began in 1699, taking more than a century to complete. Designed by dramatist-turned-architect John Vanbrugh with the aid of Nicholas Hawksmoor, the house evolved from Baroque grandeur to a Palladian counterpoint, resulting in an asymmetry that intrigued visitors then as it does today. A devastating fire in 1940 left nearly a third of the building in ruins, yet through decades of meticulous restoration, its splendour endures.
