Overview
A sleek new apartment whose stylish interiors are inspired by the golden sands and azure waters of Coldingham Bay.
A striking contemporary apartment with glorious views of Coldingham Bay
Dotted with beach huts and ringed with wildlife-rich dunes and grassland, the horseshoe-shaped Coldingham Bay is one of the most picturesque beaches in southern Scotland. Only a smattering of homes pepper the grassy slopes above the kilometre-long white sand beach, amongst them the pair of strikingly contemporary Bay Villas.
With sweeping views over the bay and ocean beyond it, the Villas are set back far enough from the water’s edge to allow you to take in the dramatic coastline while being near enough to go for an early morning swim and stroll on the sand.
One of the sought-after apartments in the sumptuous Villas, 7 The Bay is a first-floor home with a large, secluded balcony overlooking Coldingham Bay and the sea beyond it. The owners of No.7 were so moved by the beauty and rich colours of a satellite image of the bay, with its rich blues and sandy tones, that it inspired the way they decorated the clean lines of the contemporary apartment, with pops of bright yellow and deep azure found throughout the property.
The rich colours contrast beautifully with the whitewashed walls and minimalist design of the apartment, whose open plan living area features a sea-facing wall essentially comprised of glass: full-height windows and sliding doors lead from the light-filled space to a secluded balcony, ensuring a true sense of indoor/outdoor living. Working in tandem with select pieces of mid-century furniture and a number of contemporary artworks painted by the owner’s brother and commissioned from local artists, the vibe at 7 The Bay is a celebration of colour and nature.
Two double bedrooms are located to the rear of the apartment, both continuing the property’s minimalist, artsy design and adding views across open fields. The master bedroom features a built-in wardrobe and chic monochrome en suite bathroom with a large walk-in shower while the second bedroom benefits from access to a bathroom with a bath and shower over. A utility room keeps washing and drying appliances as well as beach clothing and toys tidied away.
While you’re not soaking up the views of Coldingham Bay from the balcony, you can head down to the sand itself to enjoy excellent surfing, diving and kayaking - professional instruction in all three pursuits is available through the nearby St Vedas Surf Shop. There are also plenty of walking routes in the local vicinity, including a scenic coastal walk that takes in the pretty fishing village of St. Abbs, the perfect spot for a tasty seafood chowder or crab baguette. Should you fancy a day trip, choices include the historic coastal town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and the vibrant City of Edinburgh.

Nearby Northfield Farm is a National Trust for Scotland Nature Centre, perfect for a coffee or lunch stop, or head to the harbour at St. Abbs, where you'll find a cafe and art gallery serving delicious crab sandwiches and some divine tasty bites!
Eyemouth (3 miles) has a good selection of local services, while a more extensive range of supermarkets and retail facilities can be found in Berwick-upon-Tweed (14 miles).
Activities
The sheltered sands of Coldingham Bay sit just a few minutes’ walk from the apartment. It has a lifeguard on duty through the summer season, and a rocky shore at either end provides an ideal spot for dabbling in the rock-pools. The area is much favoured by families and offers lovely golden sands just right for beach-cricket, volleyball or flying kites.
Surfing and bodyboarding is popular here and the St. Vedas Surf School can provide rental and instruction. The area has a beach café, toilet facilities and a lovely family-friendly walk over the headland to the pretty fishing village of St. Abbs. Here, you’ll see thousands of seabirds and seals on this stunning stretch of marine reserve coastline. Diving charters leave the harbour here every day, offering some of the best diving in the UK.
Nearby Eyemouth (4 miles) has been a fishing port since the 13th Century. Today, as well as being home to a fishing fleet of about 80 boats, the harbour is also the base for a diving school, boat trips around the coast and exhilarating rides in a high-powered RIB.
To learn a little about Eyemouth’s history, pay a visit to Gunsgreen House on the opposite side of Eyemouth harbour. Built in 1753, today it offers the chance to learn more about the life of ‘merchant’ John Nisbet through its interactive tours of the house, museum and cellars. Children can dress up as a smuggler, explore hidden tunnels, hide in barrels and discover the famous ‘tea chute’!
For golf fans, Eyemouth’s golf club boasts a sixth hole voted as ‘Britain’s most extraordinary golf hole’ (check it out!) and there are a number of other highly regarded courses nearby, including links courses at North Berwick, Goswick, Dunbar and Gullane. Fishing can be found at nearby Westloch Farm.
To the south, the tiny, picturesque island of Lindisfarne linked at low tide to the mainland, is an overwhelmingly mystical place, home to the evocative remains of a ruined eleventh-century priory, a beautifully restored castle and the infamous Lindisfarne Mead.
To the north, head to Foxlake Adventures in Dunbar for some watery excitement with its wakeboard park and ringo rides, while wildlife enthusiasts and photographers will love the Scottish Seabird Centre and John Muir Country Park. Finally, the magnificent City of Edinburgh is a very easy day trip either an hour by car or 45 minutes by train from nearby Berwick-upon-Tweed.

"Just to thank you for a fantastic experience at No7 The Bay. The entire process from booking to departure was superb with my expectations truly exceeded."
Mr Unger"Fabulous stay at 7 The Bay. The apartment is so comfortable. We had a beach walk every morning in fantastic February weather. We had lunch at the New Inn, just a walk away. A beautiful part of the world, thank you for sharing."
Brennan Family"7 The Bay, Coldingham has everything you could want and more. The owners have thought of everything and again more! We loved the balcony and the view over the bay is amazing. The beach and bay are stunning and easy to get to, just a minutes' walk from the apartment. I was lucky enough to see a seal swimming in the bay, popping its head up about 20 yards from where I stood. We went to St Abbs and had a very tasty crab roll at the Old Smiddy. We had a day in Edinburgh, went up by train from Berwick upon Tweed - excellent train service. We visited The Glenkinchee Distillery, which really is a must! Had a lovely lunch at the Strawberry Barn, Dunbar. The apartment is so comfortable really didn’t want to leave. A fantastic find."
Mr & Mrs McLean"Very much enjoyed our stay, especially the clear air and beautiful views over the sea. Seeing the seals at Eyemouth was another highlight. Many thanks for your kind hospitality."
Ms Maes"Fantastic week! Beautiful apartment with lovely views over the sea. Morning coffee on the balcony was a real treat. The highlight was definitely getting wetsuits and boogie boards. My son and I spent all afternoon in the sea riding the waves. Brilliant fun! Also, the walk over the clifftops toward St Abbs was incredible."
The Mccleave Family"We have felt very fortunate this week to be staying in your beautiful apartment. You've thought of everything (and more!) to make a stay here perfect. Highlights have been the beach, listening to the sea and birdsong on the balcony, walking to St Abbs for ice cream and cake at Ebbcarrs, feeding the seals in Eyemouth, puffin spotting at St Abbs Head and a peaceful walk around The Priory. The best thing about this week according to my daughter (aged almost 4) was your toy cupboard. It was our first time in this area and we will definitely be back. You have created a very special home-from-home in a very special place. Thank you."
The Young Family"We swam in the sea every day, did yoga and meditated to the birdsong on the balcony, ate a fabulous fish lunch (best Cullen Skink ever!) at Ebbcarrs Cafe in St Abbs, and visited the beautiful nature reserve there too with its fantastic gallery and craft shop. The highlight was an outdoor cuppa at the Beach Cafe chatting to other customers after we'd been swimming and were drying off. We will definitely be back! You've thought of everything and the welcome pack and the Bay itself were such gorgeous surprises."
Mr & Mrs Trainer"Had a wonderful stay - amazing views and you have thought of everything. Thank you!"
The Twinning Family"Thanks so much for having us to stay, we had the loveliest time in Coldingham Bay thanks to your lovely beach apartment. We had lots of fun swimming in the sea, kayaking, walking along the coast. Seeing the seals at Eyemouth Harbour was such fun, and the ice cream and fish and chips at Giacopazzi's was lovely. If the sun is shining, follow up with a pint outside the Contented Sole...it is so nice! This is a lovely little spot and we'll certainly be back. Thanks again!"
Orr Family"We have had such a wonderful time here at 7 The Bay. The apartment has been truly wonderful. The views from the balcony are breath taking. We have wanted for nothing. We have both fallen in love with area and will definitely be back. Yogi our choc labrador has had the most amazing time. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful apartment."
Mr and Mrs Richmond"Thank you for an amazing stay at 7 The Bay. The apartment is a hidden gem. The fit out is gorgeous and we love the little finishing touches. The Balcony and views are amazing and we will miss the views out to sea. My daughter had a blast down at the beach along 3 her 3 year old Cavapoo called Cooper. The owner of the surf shop is lovely and very helpful and we enjoyed surfing. Although the weather was fabulous one welcomed a wet suit in the rather cold sea! We have been on some lovely walks with cooper. We will definitely be back next year. Thank you for the new memories made at 7 The Bay."
Greer Family"We have had a very relaxing stay in the apartment, we did very little during our stay but it was very much needed."
