Amisfield Walled Garden
A Revitalised Historic Gem
Set amidst the woodland fringe of Haddington in East Lothian, Amisfield Walled Garden stands as a majestic 18th-century enclave that has been transformed into a thriving community garden. As one of Scotland’s largest walled gardens, it spans 8 acres and features an array of herbaceous borders, fruit and vegetable beds, a wildflower meadow, orchard, and woodland plantings.
Once a grand kitchen garden for estate visitors, Amisfield Walled Garden fell into neglect over the centuries. Since 2007, a dedicated local team has revived it, creating a vibrant venue that offers educational opportunities and horticultural training for all. Visitors can enjoy this historical garden, open free of charge, and experience its year-round appeal while supporting ongoing community-led restoration efforts.
