Old Granary House & The Hat Shop
Old Granary House and The Hat Shop are set in the midst of the Northumbrian countryside where the River North Tyne meanders its way towards nearby Hexham. Sleeping seven guests in four bedrooms in the main house and two guests in the cottage next door, these escapes are perfect for a group getaway and deliver rural seclusion, contemporary interiors, and easy access to the region’s wealth of local walks, bike rides, historic sites, and charming towns.
A handsome stone house surrounded by rolling countryside, the tastefully renovated Old Granary House is ideal for groups of friends or families seeking a spot of blissful isolation without compromising on stylish accommodation. On the ground floor, you’ll discover an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area that’s flooded with light from bifold doors, which open out onto a generous south-facing patio and enclosed garden with far-reaching country views.
The space is designed with a considered mix of the antique and contemporary – sleek grey kitchen units contrast with a rustic timber dining table and cane chairs, while antique sideboards and a roaring wood burner sit by modern ladder shelves and wrought iron tables. The blend of old and new continues in the comfortable bedrooms found on the first floor, with three ensuite double rooms comprising a super king and two king size beds. The fourth room, a single, accesses a family bathroom with a combined bath and shower.
The Hat Shop can be found next door, perfect for a couple looking for a little peace and quiet during the holiday. While the cottage may appear traditional from the outside, inside you’ll find an open plan living space, which includes a seating area, a dining area and a kitchen. The vaulted ceiling enhances the feeling of space as does the soothing colour palette of neutral, earthy tones punctuated by subtle blue accents in the furniture and accessories, while the exposed timber roof beams add a beautiful rustic touch.
Relaxed seating creates a snug zone to curl up and watch a film after a day’s adventures and the compact kitchen includes everything you need to rustle up a meal or prep a picnic lunch to go. The bedroom is a comfortable haven with an upholstered super-king bed to sink into at the end of the day, while, as in the living space, the vaulted and beamed ceiling adds character here. The shower room off the sitting room features a large walk-in shower and is also suited to guests with limited mobility.
There’s plenty to keep you entertained at Old Granary House & The Hat Shop, including a games barn with a ping pong table, as well as host of activities to discover on your doorstep. Chesters Roman Fort – Britain’s best preserved Roman cavalry fort – sits almost literally next door while the celebrated Vindolanda Fort and Museum is just 15 minutes’ drive away.
ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION

The properties are adjacent to the owner's property. While the owners are on hand to help with any guest queries, they are very respectful of guest privacy.
While two dogs are welcome in Old Granary House, dogs are not permitted in The Hat Shop.
