A centuries-old inn nestled in the North Yorkshire countryside, The Star at Harome blends history, heritage and a deep-rooted sense of place.

Set in the village of Harome near the southern edge of the North York Moors, this Grade II listed thatched building reflects the architectural charm and folklore of rural Yorkshire. With origins dating back to the 14th century, its cruck-framed structure and whitewashed walls have sheltered monks, travellers and local legends. Tales linger of Oliver Cromwell and Dick Turpin passing through, while the attic room is rumoured to have once hosted dozing brothers from nearby abbeys.

Having weathered centuries—and a devastating fire in 2021—The Star has been carefully restored with the help of master craftsmen, retaining characterful features such as the iconic ‘Mouseman’ carvings. From bar to dining room, the atmosphere is steeped in tradition, while the kitchen continues to draw from the region’s rich larder, with menus shaped by game seasons, foraged fruits and enduring local influence.
