The Station

A Landmark Where Railway Heritage Meets Contemporary Culture
Once the proud terminus of the Richmond branch line, The Station now stands as a striking example of Victorian railway architecture brought gently into the present. Its iron columns—crafted by a master who served Queen Victoria—still support the building’s distinctive glazed roof, while the platform echoes with the quiet imprint of its past.
Originally opened in 1847 and designed by architect George Townsend Andrews, the building reflects the grandeur of 19th-century civic pride. From its intricate chimneys and gargoyles to its preserved ironwork, The Station’s character remains intact, now home to galleries, a cinema, shops, and community spaces. Its transformation honours both its rich railway history and its new role at the heart of local life.
