The Magpie Café
Perched above Whitby’s harbour in a striking black and white building, the Magpie Café is a celebrated part of the town’s maritime charm and culinary heritage.
Renowned across Yorkshire and beyond for its fish dishes, the café is a beloved stop for those drawn to Whitby’s seafront atmosphere. Rich chowders, golden battered fillets, and flavourful seafood stews reflect the area’s coastal bounty, often enjoyed with sweeping views of the Abbey and historic waterfront.
The building itself dates back to 1750, once a Merchant’s House tied to Whitby’s whaling and shipping past. Its layered history includes a stint as a pilotage office and even whispers of a resident ghost, adding to the character of this enduring local landmark.
