Cove Harbour
A Historic Coastal Retreat in South-East Scotland
Cove Harbour, nestled near Cockburnspath and the A1, offers visitors a glimpse into Scotland’s maritime past. This natural harbour has served fishermen since the 17th century and remains active with small vessels setting pots for crabs and lobsters. Managed by Cove Harbour Conservation Ltd, the harbour maintains its timeless quality, with all associated buildings listed for preservation.
Visitors can enjoy the serene coastal scenery, listen to the waves, and explore the historic tunnel through the headland, which leads to a sandy beach at low tide. The tunnel, once used for storing fresh catch and smuggled goods, adds to the charm of this hidden gem. A memorial near the path commemorates the fishing disaster of 1881, reflecting the harbour’s deep-rooted history. Those visiting are encouraged to respect the area, ensuring its beauty and tranquillity for future generations.
