Beach holidays in the UK
When it comes to beach holidays, UK destinations hold some of Europe's most captivating attractions and experiences and include everything from dramatic coastal vistas and hidden coves, to historic landmarks and sleepy fishing villages. Set against the spectacle of the UK's north-eastern coastline, our beach cottages have been specially-selected for the luxury and comfort they provide, promising you the chance to create exactly the kind of holiday you desire.
Natural beauty and coastal culture
While they may not always deliver the sun-drenched climates of the continent, trips to the UK’s idyllic beaches immerse visitors in thriving cultures and communities or offer opportunities to get far away from it all in remote locations surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
Our beach holiday cottages are scattered up and down coastlines that have long been popular with seaside holidaymakers from the UK and beyond: Northumberland, Yorkshire, Berwickshire (in the Scottish Borders), and East Lothian.
Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958, Northumberland’s Heritage Coast comprises 40 miles of shoreline running from Amble to Berwick-upon-Tweed, and includes famous beaches such as Bamburgh, Seahouses, and Alnmouth.
With more than 100 miles of coastline to explore, there are many Yorkshire beaches to add to your "must visit" list, from the soft sands and deep rock pools of Filey to the pretty fishing cottages of Robin Hood's Bay, and surfers' paradise of Cayton Bay.
Looking further north, the Scottish Borders is similarly home to some of Scotland’s most picturesque beaches and coastal stretches, including the watersports of Coldingham Bay, historic Cove Harbour, and ice cream and fish and chips from Eyemouth.
The South of Scotland's coastline flows from the Scottish Borders into East Lothian, where some of our favourite stretches of sand are tucked away. Try Tyninghame Beach and Seacliff Beach for spectacular views of Bass Rock and quiet picnic spots, or the beaches on either side of foodie North Berwick for superb walking routes.
Relax, explore, discover
Lie back on golden sands, catch up on your favourite novel, take a dip in the sea, or fly a kite: UK beaches promise endless possibilities for families, friends, and couples, but your experience can be as peaceful and relaxing, or as energetic and active, as you prefer. Trails and walking routes, including the Northumberland Coast Path, run the length of the Heritage and Borders coastlines, connecting beaches to cliffs, coves and inlets, and treating hikers to bracing sea breezes and breathtaking views of the North Sea. The UK's beaches are diverse and you certainly don't have to explore on foot: why not hit the trails on a mountain bike, try your hand at windsurfing or kitesurfing, or even go coasteering amongst the region's dramatic and rugged shorelines?
Many Borders and Northumbrian beaches lie within touching distance of fascinating historic landmarks and attractions. Explore the medieval castles of Alnwick and Bamburgh, venture out to the 7th century Holy Island of Lindisfarne, or visit Halidon Hill, site of a historic 14th century battle outside Berwick Upon Tweed. When your day on the beach is done, you'll be also be able to wind down in the towns, villages, and communities of the coast: whether you plan to drop into a traditional fish and chip shop or a fine seafood restaurant, you won't have to look far for something to satisfy your tastes and preferences.
