Boasting a magical setting overlooking the bay towards the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, this charismatic conversion is an undiscovered gem. Originally an 18th Century mill house serving the monks of Lindisfarne Priory, it has been sympathetically developed to allow the character of the original building to shine through, yet with all the modern comforts of home......and then some!

A key attraction of this property is the stunning upstairs sitting room with large feature window where you can sink into the comfort of an armchair and enjoy the spirit-lifting views over the bay.

If you can bear to tear yourself away from the view, the room is naturally divided into two areas with deep comfortable sofas, a TV space and a small work desk allowing allowing multi-purpose use, yet also ideal for larger groups looking for some together-space.

There are two en-suite bedrooms on the first floor, with one twin bedroom on the ground floor, including an en-suite wet room.

Downstairs, the open plan kitchen and dining area is wonderfully inviting, linked by the original stone arch - ideal for relaxed evenings and plenty of convivial chat over a fine Merlot perhaps.

To the front of the cottage, there is a private patio area for sitting-out with a large shared sea-facing garden to the rear.

For larger groups looking to holiday together, the cottage can be booked in conjunction with The Stables (sleeps 4) which sits right next door.

Local amenities

The cottage sits next to many close visitor attractions with local services nearby, including the wonderful Barn at Beal (3.5 miles) for lingering lunches savouring the catch-of-the-day or informal evening dining.

You can get ‘corner shop’ provisions from the Beal Garage on the A1, or 4 miles will take you to the village of Belford which offers a range of local amenities including the Sunnyhills Farm Shop which sells fabulous local produce as well as serving excellent coffee and tasty food. Food fans will be delighted by the wealth of local goodies on offer here including Doddington Dairy ice cream, Northumberland cheeses, Lindisfarne Oysters, Chainbridge Honey, and Craster Kippers to name but a few.

More extensive amenities can be found in the Elizabethan walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (6 miles) which has a mix of high street and independent shopping, as well as two large supermarkets, a Marks & Spencers food outlet and a good selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Activities and attractions

The whole area is bursting with things to do here, dotted by a trail of castles and fortifications interspersed with pretty seaside villages all the way up and down the coast.

Sitting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the Lindisfarne Nature Reserve, nature lovers, birdwatchers and photographers will be captivated by the vast variety of wildlife and birdlife right on the doorstep. This is a spectacular stretch for migrant and wading birds, and in the evening, you can wrap up and head down to the bay to experience big sky views and some amazing sunsets.

For walking and relaxation, the beaches on this stretch of Northumberland coastline are an absolute delight. Ross Bank Sands, Cheswick and Goswick offer vast, deserted stretches of golden sands where you can wander to your hearts content, or why not cross the causeway to the mystical Holy Island of Lindisfarne to trace the legend of St. Cuthbert, including the chance to see the odd grey seal bobbing inquisitively in the sea or basking on the sand flats.

A must-visit is the beach at Bamburgh (10 miles) with its glorious curves of white sandy beach backed by deep sand dunes which is a top spot for picnics, walkers and water sports enthusiasts, with the dramatic outline of Bamburgh Castle as the stunning backdrop.

For cycling, this area has plenty to offer with an abundance of trails and waymarked routes suitable for all ages and abilities from family routes, leisure routes, and mountain biking trails with everything from easy coastal stretches to high energy treks along the course of the Sandstone Way which sits right on the doorstep.

Take a boat trip from Seahouses to the outstanding Farne Islands nature reserve and seabird sanctuary; head to Craster to sample their legendary oak smoked kippers; or head inland to experience the medieval splendour of Alnwick Castle with its fantastic child-friendly activity programme inspired by the wizardly magic and broomstick antics of Harry Potter. Open plan kitchen/dining - with ceramic hob and electric oven, dishwasher, large American -style retro fridge with small freezer space, microwave, washer/dryer. Dining space with seating for six. Small flatscreen TV.

Bedroom one - 3' twin beds, side tables, chest of drawers.

En-suite bathroom - wet room shower, heated towel rail, basin and WC. This bathroom also has a hand-rail and stool in the shower area which may make it suitable for guests with mobility restrictions.

Bedroom two - with 5’ king-size bed, wardrobe with hanging space and drawers, window seat.

En-suite bathroom - with bath and separate shower, heated towel rail, basin and WC.

Rear porch - with door out to the shared sea-facing lawned garden (steps up).

Patio area - there is a small private patio to the front of the cottage with outdoor seating for six and barbecue.

First floor

Sitting room - with large floor to ceiling feature window, large double sofa, and two armchairs (sea facing), large selection of books, work desk, electric stove. TV space with two large sofas, large flatscreen TV with Netflix (guests will require their own account for this), DVD player, and docking station. Selection of books and games.

Bedroom three - large master bedroom with 6’ super king bed, side tables, chest of drawers, wardrobe with hanging and storage space, sea views.

En-suite - bath with shower over, heated towel rail, basin and WC.
