Spectacular sea views and direct access to the Northumberland Coast Path in the pretty fishing village of Craster.

If you’re longing for fresh sea air and endless ocean views, the aptly named Water’s Edge couldn’t be better suited for your next escape. Situated in the pretty fishing village of Craster in the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just south of the medieval market town of Alnwick, it’s a spacious and contemporary retreat which is ideal for a gathering of friends or family. The house also has one of Northumberland’s finest walks on its doorstep – a clifftop stroll to the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle – while floor-to-ceiling windows and a sprawling garden make the most of its enviable position. With so much history, wildlife, and stunning scenery all around you, it’s the ideal base from which to explore this part of the world.

Enter Water’s Edge through the front door and you’ll find a handy inner porch for storing coats and boots, as well as a downstairs WC. An airy open-plan living space is spread across the ground floor, where full-length folding doors draw in the sea views and open out onto the patio terrace – perfect for spilling outdoors with drinks in the evening sun, or perhaps enjoying the sunrise with a coffee on a crisp morning. In the living area, a comfy pebble-grey corner sofa is joined by a TV, and wide selection of board games which will keep you equally entertained on cosy nights.

Flow through into the kitchen and dining space, where you’ll find more folding doors which open out to the sea. The well-appointed kitchen will make bringing your meals together a breeze, perhaps with some freshly caught seafood or famous Craster kippers sourced from the village, while the extendable dining table is perfect for brunches and relaxed evening meals spent enjoying those expansive views. Next door, the large games room is sure to tempt a post-dinner game or two of pool.

You’ll find all four bedrooms upstairs on the first floor. Down a couple of steps from the upper hallway, the master bedroom features a king size bed beneath wooden beams, an ensuite bathroom, and a wonderful Juliet balcony which looks out across the waves. The second bedroom is decorated in neutral coastal tones and is home to a double bed with crisp white sheets and an ensuite bathroom. The third bedroom features a double bed and more sea views while the fourth is a twin, with both rooms benefitting from the family bathroom with a combined bath and shower.

With vast skies, a sweeping horizon, and fairytale castle ruins in the distance, Water’s Edge holds a magical position on this scenic stretch of coastline. Look forward to relaxing on a deck chair on summer days – perhaps while firing up the barbecue – or heading out the gate at the bottom of the garden to investigate the rockpools. The village of Craster is home to several welcoming pubs and cafés while the wider attractions of the area are also within easy reach, from the historic sites of Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to the beautiful Alnwick Gardens.
