Enjoy spectacular castle views from this relaxing Bamburgh bolthole, just a short stroll from the sea.

Enviably located to make the most of the stunning views of Bamburgh Castle, this welcoming dog-friendly cottage is the ideal base for exploring the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just a short stroll from the beach which stretches beneath the castle, you’ll be able to dash out at a moment’s notice to luxuriate in quiet morning walks and the fresh sea air. With a bench seat perfectly placed for watching games of cricket on the green, you’ll be equally tempted to stay put with a jug of Pimm’s on slow summer days.

Step through the front door into the small porch with a hanging rail for your coats. To the right, the open-plan living, dining and kitchen space makes the most of the impressive castle views. A sociable place to unwind, the room is decorated in a calming neutral colour palette with sash windows and comfy furnishings.

The first bedroom is home to twin beds, a built-in wardrobe and nautical artworks. The family bathroom lies next door and is fitted with a combined bath and shower. The second bedroom is located up two steps and is complete with a double bed, while the third lies up on the first floor. Featuring a double bed, it’s set beneath original beams and benefits from a skylight which fills the room with natural light. The second bathroom is located opposite and is fitted with a shower.

There’s plenty to fill your days in Bamburgh from the perfectly located Barnend. Take in the far-reaching sea views from the ramparts of Bamburgh Castle, walk for miles along the pristine sandy beach, or enjoy a delicious lunch at the Bamburgh Walled Garden Café in the village. For day trips, head a little further afield and discover the intriguing history of the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, just north of Bamburgh, or the popular village of Seahouses that lies just to the south, where regular boat trips set out to spot seals and puffins on the Farne Islands.

Location

Guarded by the iconic Bamburgh Castle which rises from its volcanic promontory with an almost mythic authority, this charming village combines the best of Northumbrian hospitality with a stretch of coastline with AONB status. Miles of stunning white sands stretch beneath the castle, from which you can take in views of the wildlife-rich Farne Islands and the fascinating Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Perfect for long dog walks, games, or quiet reflection, it's no wonder this is one of the most beloved beaches in the country.

You can enjoy fantastic fresh seafood at several restaurants in the village, perhaps during a relaxed brunch or with a takeaway from the Walled Garden Café, while the numerous tearooms and ice-cream shops are perfect for afternoon treats. There are also several great pubs for cosying up by the fire with a drink in the evening.

The whole area is bursting with things to do, dotted by a trail of castles and fortifications interspersed with pretty seaside villages all the way up and down the coast. For day trips, why not cross the causeway to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to trace the legend of St Cuthbert, explore The Alnwick Garden, or take a boat trip from Seahouses to spot puffins and seals in the outstanding Farne Islands nature reserve and seabird sanctuary.
