If you are an avid fan of the ‘Royal and Ancient’ game, there are a number of very compelling reasons why you should visit the Scottish Borders and Northumberland - over 60 fantastic courses; top quality golfing; special green fee rates; spectacular scenery; and warm friendly hospitality. All in all - a really rather perfect golf destination!
There are 40 golf courses in Northumberland, and another 21 in the Scottish Borders offering visitors an incredibly wide and varied range of golfing options. Experience challenging PGA Championship courses, enjoy the raw natural beauty of a coastal links course, or delight in the lush sweeping fairways of the many parkland courses scattered across the area.
For many, ‘links’ golf is the most pure form of the game. It represents where it all started over 500 years ago on the links at St. Andrews, the world’s oldest course. In Northumberland, you’ll find an abundance of courses which hug the outstanding heritage coastline allowing you to sample true links like Goswick, Warkworth, Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, nestling just yards from stunning sandy beaches. And just an hour’s drive from many of our properties are some of Scotland's most famous links courses including North Berwick, Gullane, Muirfield, Archerfield and
Dunbar. Seen as a unique and invigorating experience, why not test your skill and creativity against the natural elements of a links game!
Both the European and Senior golf tours hold regular events in Northumberland, and if you head inland you will find an array of challenging courses, award-winning parkland tracts and championship courses such as Slaley Hall and Burgham Park - host of the PGA North Region Championship. At Slaley you will find 2 championship courses, including ‘The Hunting’, an outstanding par 72 course, where well placed bunkers and tricky greens are sure to present some memorable golfing moments.
Celebrate......or perhaps commiserate in the Claret Jug at the 19th hole!

Across the Tweed, the Scottish Borders boasts some outstanding 9 and 18 hole courses and is known for having some of the friendliest golf clubs in the country. Each has its own very unique features, but all offer an irresistible mix of relaxed scenic courses and fantastic playing experiences. The area includes two iconic venues - The Roxburghe near to Kelso and Cardrona near to Peebles, both designed by Ryder cup player and world-renowned course architect Dave Thomas who created the famous Belfry.
The Roxburghe, a venue for the PGA European Tour Qualifying Tour, is a first-class championship course owned by the Duke of Roxburghe. Set amidst a beautiful parkland setting, it is a ‘must’ for any golf enthusiast. Its signature hole is an unforgettable par 5 called the Viaduct, described by Sam Torrance as a ‘beautiful hole in a glorious setting’. Why not pay a visit and experience its generous greens and deep bunkers while attempting the course record of 66 set by Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia!
Every course has features that will remain with you: the 'Stank' at Kelso, 'Everest' at Minto, or the 6th at Eyemouth, voted Britain's most extraordinary golf hole - a formidable par 3 played across a vast cliff-top gulley with the North Sea waves crashing below! Enjoy hidden gems like The Hirsel with its tricky water hazards; experience the rich golfing heritage of Hawick founded in 1877 where Nick Faldo holds the course record; or pay a visit to the picturesque course at Duns founded in 1894. Cardrona, the newest addition to the Borders, sits in the breathtaking beauty of the rolling Border hills along with Peebles which skirts the River Tweed and offers the perfect setting for a leisurely game.
So.......come, play, enjoy and ‘Haste Ye Back’!

Green Fees

Golf Lessons
A large number of local courses have a PGA Professional on-hand to offer tuition. This can take various forms from one to one tuition to a group lesson. There are also specialist days available, usually limited to six people and focusing on one area of your game. These include specialist putting schools, chipping schools and a unique 'guaranteed to cure your slice school'!

Organised Tee Off Times
Many courses now offer on-line booking functionality which means that tee-off times can easily be arranged in advance. Any questions can generally be answered by the resident golf pro, including things like dress code, equipment hire and course protocol.
