Floristry Classes

Dip into the world of floristry

The Flower Room

You can dip into the world of floristry and learn how to create beautiful arrangements with the ladies at The Flower Room in Kelso or with Julie at The Flower Room in her garden workshop near Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Both are passionate about flowers and have built up a wealth of knowledge on creating the perfect display. With years of experience in the floristry business, they would love share some of their skills to help you to produce your own imaginative floral designs.

From absolute beginners to enthusiastic amateurs, the Flower Room team would be delighted to help you plan a relaxed session learning how to handle flowers with skill and confidence.

The ladies can join you at your holiday home, or alternatively evening sessions can be arranged at their Kelso or Berwick venues. Why not combine a floral demonstration with a practical hands-on session, or perhaps immerse yourself in a full day workshop where you can learn traditional and contemporary design techniques using seasonal blooms and foliage.

All events are entirely bespoke and tailored to individual requirements, however to give you a little inspiration here’s just a little taster on possible themes and topics....

  • Design Basics
  • Introduction to Colour
  • Working with Height and Proportion
  • Hand-tied Vintage Bouquet
  • Lifestyle Flowers

So whether you want to produce a stylish posy, an elegant dinner table design or the perfect vase arrangement, the choice is entirely yours.

Ginger House Garden

Ginger House Garden is a family business run by sisters Steph and Ali Mills. They grow seasonal British flowers from their smallholding in Horncliffe, the most northerly village in England.

"We specialise in a natural, garden-gathered style taking inspiration from the seasons and the countryside around us.

We are happy to offer workshops either in your holiday home or we can put on a workshop at our flower farm, which would include a tour of our flower fields. We are also flexible with time - morning, afternoon, evening or all day. Some examples of workshops we can offer:

  • Jam jar posies
  • Hand-tied bouquets
  • Vessel arrangements
  • Dried flower wreath
  • Flower crown - fresh flowers or dried
  • Christmas wreath
  • Christmas table centerpiece

A typical 2 hour workshop on site at Ginger House Garden may include a tour of the flower fields, a full afternoon tea and a jam jar arrangement for you to arrange and take away. A full day workshop, for example, may include a tour, lunch and refreshments served throughout the day, a hand-tied bouquet and a vessel centerpiece for you to arrange and take away with you."
