What's On in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders
Enquiry>What's On
The Scottish Borders and Northumberland host a wealth of events throughout the year. We have listed some of the most popular below along with a few of our own favourites. If there is something you would like to see or do which you don't see on the list (perhaps you are a big fan of crab-racing or bog-snorkelling) then give us a ring and we will do our very best to use our local contacts to point you in the right direction.
July and August
Summer is a glorious time of year to explore the stunning countryside of the Borders and Northumberland whether it be on 2 feet, 4 hooves or 2 wheels. Pack up a picnic and head up into the hills, try your hand at canoeing down the famous River Tweed or have a go at sea-kayaking or kite-surfing. One of the 'must dos' for summer is a trip to the beach. The nearby Heritage Coast consists of 25 miles of golden sands and secluded rocky coves that remain almost deserted even in the summer months. The waters are clean (MCS Recommended) and safe for swimming and the vast swaths of sands exposed at low tide are perfect for building monster sandcastles, a game of beach cricket or just lazing with a good book.
The world famous Military Tattoo and Edinburgh Fringe and International Festivals are well worth a visit and by using the Borders as a base for day trips to Edinburgh you can dip in and out avoiding the crowds and costly accommodation. Edinburgh is easily accessible by car from all of our properties and the train from Berwick upon Tweed takes just 45 minutes and arrives right in the centre of Edinburgh.

September and October
The mellow autumn days provide a glorious time of year to explore the stunning countryside of the Borders and Northumberland whether it be on 2 feet, 4 hooves or 2 wheels. Walking here is excellent at any time of year but particularly rewarding amid such magnificent seasonal hues, while the prime autumn fishing continues to attract a local and international following. The quieter months provide the ideal opportunity to try something different at your own speed. If you've always fancied a trek along a bridle path, saddle up with a horse and guide. Switch from four wheels to two for a cycle tour on sign-posted routes and quiet country lanes or take to the hills for a mountain bike ride on expertly-designed downhill tracks. Opportunities abound for a variety of other activities - golf, archery, falconry, diving, clay pigeon shooting, quad bike riding and canoeing. All guaranteed to bring a rosy glow to your cheeks and a smile to your face.
