Top tips for your fishing accommodation

We’ll be honest, as much as we love actually fishing the most exciting side for us is, naturally, the accommodation you choose for your stay. We know more than a little about what makes a truly great property for fishing parties. In fact there are stringent requirements for a property to make it in to our selection of “holiday cottages for fishing parties”

It is satisfying to match a guest to their perfect property and know that they’re going to have a great stay. With lovely self catering properties on offer for all budgets and party sizes we spoke to Tom at Fin and Game to ask for his top tips on the essentials he feels fishing parties should look for in their Crabtree & Crabtree fishing accommodation.

Over to Tom...

"Rod room/storage
This dedicated space allows you to keep your rods ready for fishing the next day, or even after dinner if your beat allows. Lose the hassle of taking down your rod at the end of each day and speed up the process of getting to the water in the morning.

Dog friendly
Ensure your four-legged fishing companion is welcome at your cottage and will be made just as comfortable as you. Crabtree & Crabtree are a dog friendly company and many of their cottages welcome dogs as well as humans!

Large freezer
If you are lucky enough to catch a Tweed salmon a freezer will allow you to keep your catch until the end of your stay. Then you can either take your catch home or drop it off at a local smoker.

Drying room/area
As we all know, autumn in the Scottish Borders can, more often than not, be a rather wet affair. There is nothing worse than getting into wet clothes at the beginning of a day so a drying room is the perfect addition to look out for at your fishing accommodation.

River view
Is there a fisherman out there who doesn’t love looking out over the river and wondering if the prized Atlantic salmon is swimming within? Check out some of Crabtree & Crabtree’s cottages with unbeatable river views here.

Open fire place or wood burning stove
Is there a better way to toast a successful day on the river or telling tales of the one that got away than enjoying your favourite malt in front of a roaring fire."

Put simply, tell us which aspect of a property is most important to you and we’ll endeavour to find it! If you give us as much information as possible we’ll use our local knowledge to match you to the perfect cottage, barn, castle.....

The Tweed is generally regarded as the most prolific salmon river in Europe, and the pursuit of Atlantic salmon by rod and reel continues to be seen as the quintessential fly fishing prize.  We think that fishing on such a spectacular river deserves equally as spectacular accommodation to return to in the evenings.
