The little Border town of Coldstream lies on the north side of the Tweed where the river forms the natural boundary with England. The town gave its name to the regiment who marched from here to London in 1660 and the local Museum highlights the history of the Coldstream Guards on the site of the original headquarters. Nearby Hirsel Country Park offers some of the finest birdwatching in the area as well as many lovely walks and the pristine Hirsel Golf Course is featured as one of Golf Monthly’s top 100 Hidden Gems in the UK and Ireland. Coldstream is an ideal base to explore both north Northumberland and the eastern Scottish Borders and is of course a wonderful location for fishing on the Tweed.
