Overview

For free-spirits with a passion for the great outdoors, toasty Teasel will add a quirky and characterful touch to your holiday experience.

Perfectly sized for mini glamping breaks and impulse weekends

With one king size bed (5’ x 6’ 3”) and full size single bunk beds (3’ x 6’ 3”), Teasel has been cleverly designed to maximise space during the day time, with the top bunk folding away to form a seating area. Bunk beds are available for use at a charge of £7.50.

The hut features a small galley kitchen area with an electric two ring hob, a microwave combination oven, under-counter fridge, toaster, kettle, and a DAB radio. There is also an extendable dining table for up to four guests. Just off the kitchen is a small bathroom with electric shower, basin and WC.

For the cooler months the hut is super-insulated and has electric tubular heating and an electric ‘real flame effect’ stove.

Guests can also hire Colin, a cutesy retro caravan at £20 per night (subject to availability) where the younger members of the family can have their own little mini adventure - a fun den for day use but set-up for sleeping capacity too!

Two dogs are welcome. Horses are welcome with prior notice. There is grazing and stabling available on site at additional cost.

Teasel sits alongside three further huts, Cow Parsley, Foxglove and The Beach Hut, each sleeping up to four guests which are ideal for guests who wish to holiday together. Foxglove is also adapted for guests who are mobility impaired.

"We had the most amazing time at Teasel. It was perfect, so laidback. The kids loved the horses, they loved the dogs, they loved the bunk beds. The kids have asked if we can live there. We honestly would if we could... It is perfect. Thank you so much for a lovely mini holiday!!" - Doherty Family

Teasel sits approximately 3.5 miles from the village of Lowick where you can buy a range of provisions from the well-stocked village store, including freshly baked bread, cakes and scones as well as lovely local produce. 10 miles and 10.5 miles respectively will take you to the charming villages of Belford and Wooler where you will find a good selection of small town shopping, as well as a selection of eateries, inns and pubs.

The charming Ford & Etal Estate is 6.8 miles away and has a range of delightful tearooms and small independent shops, as well as The Black Bull pub where you can enjoy a filling pub lunch with a refreshing ale, brewed just 2 minutes up the road on the estate.

Alternatively, a more extensive range of amenities, including large supermarkets, can be found in Berwick-upon-Tweed just a short 7.5 mile drive away. Head to Bridge Street in the town, where a thriving street full of small independent names and quirky shops can be found. From an eco-friendly retail shop and wool studio to a music shop and gallery, there is something for everyone on this community lead street. For further food delights, you will not be short for options. The area has a rich food heritage and there is something to cater for all tastes and budgets here. Enjoy tasty fish and chips on the promenade, cosy pubs, characterful cafes including Northern Edge Coffee and The Corner House, or bistro restaurants such as The Maltings Kitchen and The Queen's Head serving tempting light-bites or a pre-theatre dinner.

Activities

With over 30 miles of stunning sandy beaches, guests are spoilt for choice. Cheswick, Goswick, Bamburgh and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne all sit nearby with pristine white sands perfect for sandcastle making, rock pools made for dabbling in, hidden coves and deep sheltered sand dunes ideal for cosy picnics, and stunning sunsets on a balmy summer evening.

The dramatic beauty of the Cheviot Hills can be accessed from Wooler (11 miles) where walkers and mountain bikers can follow the routes of ancient cattle drovers, taking in Iron Age stone fortifications and traces of Bronze Age hillforts amidst the tranquil and rugged landscape.

Follow the legend of St. Cuthbert with a visit to the Cuddy’s Cave a short walk exploring the area around this historic feature, or alternatively join Northumberland Park Rangers for a guided walk where you will learn much about the heritage and wildlife of the area and enjoy some outstanding vistas along the way. For coastal hikes, take time out to spot the rich birdlife on the Northumberland Coastal Path.

For cycling, you will find everything from gentle low-level meanders to big hill country treks, including long-distance routes such as the Pennine Cycleway or the cycle challenges of the Wooler Wheel Hub.

For sightseeing the area is punctuated by iconic castles, stately homes and fortifications which are testament to the area’s rich and dramatic past. Pay a visit to the magnificent castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh or Chillingham where you can discover tales of bloody battles and royal rebellion, or enjoy the stunning stately homes and gardens of Belsay, Cragside, Wallington or Paxton House. Harry Potter was filmed at Alnwick Castle and children will particularly enjoy the wizardly magic of characters inspired by Hagrid and Harry, including a spot of Broomstick Training!

Foodies will enjoy the fine local produce in one of the many pubs or restaurants in the area - everything from the freshest fish and chips to fine dining experiences. The very popular Barn at Beal is nearby with amazing views over to Holy Island or perhaps partake in a tipple of infamous Lindisfarne Mead.

For action sports, surfing, kitesurfing and coasteering is available at Bamburgh, Beadnell and St. Abbs Head with teaching from local instructors, while canoeing can be arranged on the nearby coastal waters or river systems.

There are also extensive cycling and mountain biking trails in and around the area, with the Coast and Castles route a firm favourite. For riding, Swinhoe, Kimmerston and Slate Hall riding centres all come recommended, offering lessons, treks and wonderful beach rides.

For fishing, guests can head to the lakes at Chatton which offers fly fishing for trout, or try Coldingham Loch for bank or boat fishing - both helpful and friendly venues.

Reviews

"We had a fabulous time at Teasal. The hut was spotless and really well equipped and the owner was a really attentive and welcoming host. There was lots to do and see in the  local area and we would go back in a heartbeat. All in all a very peaceful and relaxing short break - perfect."

Mr & Mrs Stewart

"What a super stay we had at Teasel. The hut is so well and considerately planned for maximum space and comfort. The crockery, bed linen all fixtures and fittings are top quality. We loved the quirky touches like the ‘colanders’ as light shades in the kitchen. The owners are top hosts who clearly have put considerable time, thought and expense and planning into delivering exceptional huts. The surrounding area is superb - beautiful coastline with unspoilt beeches with seals and dolphins as visitors. So much to do.  A wonderful stay in a beautiful Shepherds’ Hut in a beautiful setting. 10/10. Going back for the next half term break."

Broadbelt family

"This little place is fantastic. The location is perfect for a complete hideaway break. Beautiful and quiet surroundings but not far from things to do. Rachel was lovely and so helpful and our dog Milo loved making friends with Elvis! The hut itself is stylish, comfortable, warm, clean and perfect for us with some lovely little thoughtful touches. As a hater of New Year, this has got to be one of the best I've ever had! Thank you again and no doubt we will be back."

Ms Barrett

"Wonderful hut, warm despite a super cold night. Comfortable beds, great shower room with lots of hot water! Stunning location. Highly recommend!”

Ms Brown

"We had a fantastic time at the Teasel. The hut is so cosy and beautifully furnished. The owner really has thought of everything you may need to make your stay comfortable. The huts are in a perfect location that means you are away from all the hustle and bustle, but it's also not far from all the main highlights of Northumberland. We can't wait to come back!"

Rowe Family

"Fabulous place to stay. Shepherds hut had a great layout and possibly the most comfy bed ever. A good base for exploring from. Very dog friendly all in all a great start to our holiday"

Mrs & Mr Maw

"My family and I had a wonderful time staying at Teasel and have made many special memories being there. Our children didn’t want to come home & have already asked if we can return next year and bring their auntie & cousins. Rachel was the perfect host making us most welcome. Her Shepherd's Huts are stunning. My husband & I have stayed in a Shepherd's Hut before but it doesn’t have a patch on Teasel. We will be back & will be recommending them to our family and friends."

Graham Family

"We had the most amazing time at Teasel. It was perfect, so laidback. The kids loved the horses, they loved the dogs, they loved the bunk beds. The kids have asked if we can live there. We honestly would if we could... It is perfect. Thank you so much for a lovely mini holiday!!"

Doherty family

"We had a great time, thank you... and the owner was a fabulous host"

Ms Iddon

"Our stay in Teasel Shepherd’s Hut was absolutely fantastic. Rachel was a great host, and the children loved the cute and cosy hut, the peaceful surroundings and most of all playing with the four dogs. Everything we could need in the kitchen was there, despite the compact nature of the place, and we loved that Rachel has an accessible cabin too. The location is great too with loads to see and do round about. We don’t often go back to the same place, but we were all talking about returning before we had even left."
