Overview
This stunning two bedroom cottage offers coastal and countryside adventures on its doorstep.
Situated in the grounds of the 16th century Fenton Tower, enjoy open-plan living in this beautifully designed contemporary home.
This two bedroom cottage offers a prime location for exploring all that East Lothian has to offer, from spectacular beaches and world renowned golf courses to coastal walks and historic sites.
Designed to blend in with the landscape, this timber-clad cottage exudes modern-rustic charm. Set in a slightly elevated position that makes the most of the open vistas across the rolling countryside, once inside you’ll discover a light-filled interior centred around a dramatic open-plan living, dining and kitchen space. The double-height vaulted ceiling enhances the sense of volume here, while your eye is guided to the view through the French doors that open this space onto the wide stone patio.
Rooflights bathe this interior in light, creating a shift in mood as the sun moves around the cottage, casting intriguing pools of light and shadows throughout the day. The aesthetic throughout blends classic and contemporary styling, with a neutral colour palette and wide plank oak flooring that enhances the flow between the different zones.
The kitchen is minimalist and elegant with sleek, handle-less cabinetry and integrated appliances, with everything you’d need to rustle up a meal after a day’s sightseeing. The dining furniture has a relaxed country style with a farmhouse table to gather around, while the seating area has a plump sofa and armchairs positioned to soak in the view. On warmer days, with the doors open, this living space spills onto the patio – perfect for al fresco dining – while botanical references in the artworks and textiles further enhance the indoor-outdoor connection.
The bedrooms have a sophisticated vibe with their combination of upholstered beds and French-style painted furniture, and with a colour palette of dove grey and chalky tones of sky blue and pale olive. Upholstered window seats create quiet nooks to settle with a morning coffee, gazing out towards the countryside that surrounds Fenton Tower and simply enjoying this tranquil setting. The en suites again offer a fusion of traditional and modern with painted cabinetry and classic fittings, complemented by a large walk-in shower in one, and a bath and shower combo in the other.
If you’re looking to visit as part of a larger group, nearby Fenton Lodge also sleeps four, while Fenton Tower provides luxurious accommodation for up to thirteen guests, giving visitors the opportunity to rent a combination of holiday homes to suit their needs.
And what better way to explore East Lothian than from this prime spot between Gullane and North Berwick, where you’ll find an array of independent shops and artisan cafes and restaurants. A renowned area for golf enthusiasts, this is also the perfect base for a golfing break with famous courses including Muirfield and North Berwick Golf Club within easy reach. Explore the coastline on foot, taking in the spectacular beaches at Yellowcraig and Gullane or slightly further east at Ravensheugh Sands, or by sea with boat trips to the Isle of May and Bass Rock, which is home to the world's largest colony of Northern gannets.
