Everyone needs a little time-out to relax and for many that may involve a little pampering, the chance to experience new therapies, or simply some dedicated ‘me time’ to enjoy or practise disciplines which bring a sense of well-being and good health.  Whether you have an hour to spare, a day, or perhaps a little more, the area has a wealth of options which we hope will bring you relaxation, mindfulness and put a little spring back in your step.

Spa & Beauty Treatments

For general relaxation, a half or full day spa treatment may be just the ticket to unwind and rejuvenate and we can thoroughly recommend: 

Stobo Castle, Near Peebles - who offer a number of Spa options including its Morning Chill-Out, Lazy Afternoon or Heavenly Spa Day.  There are a wide range of treatments to choose from including facial, eye and body treatments, massage, Darphin skincare, alternative therapies as well as personal training and fitness options.  Package prices start at £42.50, including lunch. 

The facilities of the Roxburghe Hotel, owned by the Duke of Roxburghe near Kelso is located in the central Borders, and the Beauty Suite in the courtyard area offers a superb range of luxury treatments, body therapies and massage options using Elemis products. The grand setting in a super parkland location provides an ideal excuse to stay a little longer and enjoy afternoon tea!

Alternatively you may wish to try award winning Doxford Hall, just off Northumberland’s Heritage Coast, who also offer half and full day spa and leisure packages, including body and facial treatments by Decleor.  Prices start at £30.

Fitness

If you are looking to combine a get-away-from-it-all break with a programme of fitness, you may wish to consider one of our delightful properties - The Bowmont Wing at Kilham, where bespoke breaks can be arranged in conjunction with the property owner who is a qualified fitness instructor.  Packages can be tailored to suit all levels and abilities and we would be delighted to help you plan your arrangements if desired.

Alternatively, if you wish to arrange a personal training session at your holiday home or perhaps attend classes at a local gym or fitness facility in close proximity to your holiday home, we can help with all of those things - please just ask.  

Complementary Therapies

Rather than focus on individual practitioners in the area - there are many! - let’s outline some of the therapies available which may help you reach a decision on what’s right for you.....

Acupuncture - part of the traditional medicine of China which has been practised for thousands of years, this involves the insertion of fine needles into the acupuncture points of the skin to help with physical, emotional problems and musculoskeletal pain.

Aromatherapy - the use of essential oils extracted from plants to help improve physical and emotional well-being.

Bowen Therapy - the Bowen Technique is a remedial hands-on therapy which uses a distinctive rolling-type move of the thumbs and forefingers on very precise points of the body to stimulate the muscles and soft tissue of the body.  It uses gentle, light-touch movements to correct imbalances in the body and is most commonly used to treat back, neck and shoulder pain.

Chiropractic - one of the largest complementary health care professions in the western world, it focuses on the relationship between the structure and function of the body and the preservation and restoration of health.  It uses a variety of manipulative, adjusting and supportive techniques to help people with muscular and skeletal pain.

Healing Energy - A relaxing experience which helps to bring balance to the body, mind and soul using guided visualisation and meditation techniques. It is recognised by many cultures as a means of restoring health and enhancing well-being.

Homeopathy - aims to work with the whole person by triggering the body’s natural system of healing with the use of homeopathic medicines which are chosen according to the two principles of ‘like cures like’ and ‘minimum dosage’.

Hypnotherapy - where the client and therapist work together to bring about therapeutic and beneficial life changes during a process which involves a deep state of relaxation which focuses on confidence building and positive thought processes.

Massage - a range of techniques are offered - Holistic, using oils and balms directly on the skin to relax muscles, reduce stress and anxiety; Hot Stone - the application of heated basalt stones to key points of the body providing a deep massage - relaxing muscles, stimulating circulation and promoting self-healing; Indian Head, working on areas of the body most prone to tension - head, neck, shoulders and upper back; Japanese Hand, a unique blend of Shiatsu and Reflexology which aims to de-stress the body, open energy channels and create a feeling of well-being; and Remedial and Therapeutic, which involves the manipulation of the body’s deep tissue to reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility and improve recovery.

Mind-Detox - is a way helping people free themselves from life-limiting issues and problems resulting from negative emotions.  The method helps by pinpointing the root cause of these problems and aims to help the individual find a positive way forward.

Pilates -  a pathway to well-being and physical fitness by promoting flexibility, balance, co-ordination and concentration.  This gentle exercise programme is designed to develop core stability, correct spinal alignment, improve posture and strengthen the back.

Reflexology - a natural holistic therapy which uses pressure points on the feet and hands to detect, stimulate and treat imbalances within the entire body.

Reiki - a gentle touch therapy thought to stimulate the body’s natural self-healing processes and promote a feeling of balance, relaxation and harmony.

Shiatsu - a Japanese therapy that works by stimulating the body’s energy flow.  It is seen as a deeply relaxing experience helping both specific injuries and more general health issues.

Stress Management - a cognitive therapy using breathing and relaxation techniques and therapies to help the body cope with stress and overcome daily obstacles that separate us from our hopes and goals.

Yoga - a discipline that promotes physical, mental and spiritual well-being.  Through yoga postures and exercises the individual learns to develop strength and flexibility, regulate breathing and apply meditative techniques to keep body and emotions in a state of balanced harmony.
