Golf Days in Northumberland and Scottish Borders

Enquiry >

There are over 40 golf courses in Northumberland, and another twenty-one in the Scottish Borders, many set in some of Britain’s most dramatic landscapes. The range is wide and incredibly varied. Challenging PGA Championship courses, picturesque links and parkland courses mean that whatever you play off you can find a course to suit you.

On Northumberlands proud and rugged coastline you’ll find true links courses like Goswick, Warkworth, Dunstanburgh Castle, Bamburgh Castle and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, nestling just yards from stunning beaches. Both the European and Senior golf tours hold regular events here. Head inland and test yourself on the championship courses at Slaley Hall and Burgham Park - home of the PGA North Region Championship.

Across the Tweed the Scottish Borders now also boasts a host of outstanding 18 hole courses. The Roxburghe, for example, was planned by world-renowned course designer Dave Thomas and is home to the Charles Church Scottish Seniors Open.

Every course has features that will remain with you forever: the 'Stank' at Kelso, 'Everest' at Minto or the panoramic views over the North Sea at Eyemouth. The par three, 170 yard sixth hole at Eyemouth Golf Course was recently voted Britain's most extraordinary golf hole. Cardrona, the newest addition to the Borders, has been labeled the 'Gleneagles of the South' (play it you’ll soon realise why).

Green fees in the area start from a very reasonable £10 per round and both the Scottish Border’s ‘Freedom of the Fairways’ passes and Northumberland’s ‘Parsport’ offer discounted rates at many of the best courses in the area. There are also a number of driving ranges where you can practice your swing. And just an hour’s drive from many of our properties are some of Scotland's most famous links courses including North Berwick, Luffness, Gullane, Muirfield, Archerfield and Dunbar.
