Fishing on the River Tweed

Enquiry >

Welcome to the realm of the king of fish, the River Tweed. Every year tens of thousands of Salmon make their way up the river, an annual odyssey that is one of nature's miracles. Around 100 miles long and draining some 15,000 sq miles of Border country, Tweed, as one calls it (the "the" is dropped), is generally regarded as the most prolific salmon river in Europe. Catch returns record around 15,000 salmon and grilse each season.

As an angler's paradise it has a history that dates back hundreds of years. Place names and pools from Melrose to Norham still bear the names of 8th Century monks and 14th Century settlers that fished them. But of course, it was the innovative Victorian fly fishers who really brought Tweed into its own. Their traditions live on to this day.

A specialist Tweed fishing company, Crabtree & Crabtree can arrange bespoke fishing holidays for both individuals and groups. As well as offering fishing throughout the River Tweed system, there are some beats that we own, manage or represent. Many of these beats are situated next to, or in front of, the Tweed holiday homes we let.

Finding the right beat and the accommodation to go with it is just a small part of what we offer. Other services that we provide are: arranging additional ghillies, fishing guides and tuition, equipment hire, disabled fishing access, vehicle hire and airport transfers, cooks, delivering picnics to the river at lunchtime, nannies, babysitting, wine and meal delivery to lodges, fish smoking and dinner reservations. Some guests like to fish a variety of beats during their stay, experiencing different surroundings and water conditions. Others like to both fish and shoot during their stay (at certain times of year). Just ask. With Crabtree & Crabtree it's all possible.

We can book fishing and accommodation on behalf of guests or suggest appropriate properties close to a beat you have booked.

A few of our properties have private fishing available on the doorstep.
