Eyemouth is nestled on the spectacular Berwickshire Coast and is close to the charming coastal villages of Ayton, Reston, St Abbs and Coldingham. Its natural harbour is home to an active fishing fleet as well as being a great place to enjoy fresh fish and chips, award winning ice-cream or to feed the local seals!
Fishing at Eyemouth dates back to the 13th century and like other coastal communities in the 18th century, smuggling was rife and the solitary mansion of Gunsgreen House by John Adam on the south side of the harbour was at the centre of this illicit trade. Today it is a fascinating visitor attraction and of course superb holiday accommodation. The area is also famous as a world class diving destination with fabulous dive sites on its doorstep including the St Abbs and Eyemouth Marine Reserve.
Visitors can walk the Berwickshire Coastal Path which passes through the town en route from Berwick to St Abbs and the area is a paradise for birdwatching and fishing. Eyemouth Golf Course offers the discerning golfer the challenge of playing two very special holes, the 6th has been voted ‘Britain’s No.1 Most Extraordinary Golf Hole’ and the 13th at 656 yards is Scotland’s longest hole.
