The county town of Berwickshire still retains the air of an old Scottish burgh with its spacious market square.
As like many Border settlements, the town had a turbulent history and Duns Castle whose grounds are now a park and bird sanctuary are well worth a visit, as is the imposing Greenknowe Tower just a few miles away. Fans of motor sport certainly won’t want to miss The Jim Clark Room, a museum devoted to the life and achievements of the late World Champion Formula 1 racing driver. And a visit to the Edwardian country house Manderston with its silver staircase, gives a fascinating insight into ‘upstairs downstairs’ life.
