With a minimum average of 300 days sunshine per year, Cannes is a genuine all year round destination. Indeed, many people prefer to miss the summer crowds and visit out of season when the large population of local residents ensures that the town is always buzzing.

Whatever takes your fancy, there is always plenty to do in Cannes. Sun-lovers can enjoy the glorious sandy beach and the many luxurious beach clubs with their excellent restaurants and bars. If you can tear yourself away from the beach, the boutiques on the rue d’Antibes and the glossy designer stores on the Croisette will satisfy even the most serious of shoppers.

Enjoy watching the world go by with a relaxing drink in one of the many pavement cafés and when the sun goes down, head for one of the sumptuous bars at the famous Carlton or Martinez hotels for cocktails. For lunch and dinner you have the choice of no less than 315 restaurants from high gastronomy to traditional fish restaurants, bustling pizzerias and traditional French brasseries. After dinner, head to one of Cannes’ chic bars or clubs or try your luck in one of the three famous casinos.

Away from the glitz and glamour of the Croisette, the charming old city is surprisingly rustic with its labyrinth of narrow, predominantly car-free streets leading up to the twelfth-century tower and church with a magnificent panorama of the bay. At the foot of the old city is the mini-merchant district, home to purveyors of fantastic local produce and culminating in the famous Forville market.

For watersports lovers, there is water ski-ing, wake boarding, windsurfing and jet ski-ing available at one of the many water sports centres in the bay. Cannes is also a golfer’s paradise with no less than five courses in Cannes, all of which regularly welcome royalty and celebrities.

For boat-fanatics there is an array of skippered and non-skippered yachts and motor boats for hire in Cannes. Take a trip by boat or by ferry to the nearby Lérins islands. These beautiful tiny islands are seeped in history. The stunning Saint-Honorat, seat of the fifth-century Lérins abbey, is still the home of a community of Cistercian monks who are renowned for producing excellent wine. Cannes hosts a number of international events every year ranging from major golf, show-jumping and sailing competitions to festivals of shopping, games and even pyrotechnic art. In addition to the many art, dance and music festivals which take place throughout the year, there is never a shortage of things to see and do in this magnificent city.
