Local towns & villages Aside from the fabulous beach, Camber is home to the highly acclaimed The Place brasserie, the Dunes Bar which is right on the Dunes and a lovely place to watch the sun set, a couple of pubs, a fish and chip shop and a small Londis mini-market (with freshly baked bread and pastries).
Rye - 5 miles from Camber One of five medieval Cinque Ports, Rye is home to many beautifully preserved historic buildings from medieval, Tudor and Georgian times including the medieval church and the Ypres Tower (castle). Rye's enchanting cobbled streets are lined with historic inns and restaurants as well as a host of unusual shops selling antiques, collectables, local produce and works by the town's many resident artists and potters. The town plays host to many events throughout the year including the famous Arts Festival each September and bonfire parade each November.
Winchelsea - 7.5 miles from Camber "The smallest town in England." An unspoilt, quiet, small town of much character well worth exploring with delightful walks, fine views towards the coast, two pubs and a tearoom.
Hastings - 17 miles from Camber Historic seaside town with ancient churches, tiny, narrow streets (called twittens), a ruined castle built by William the Conqueror, a museum and art gallery, lifeboat station, underwater world aquarium, fantastic smugglers caves the steepest funicular railway in Britain from the old town up to the astle and numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs.
Delightful market town with excellent selection of unusual shops, interesting museum and a stop on the Kent & East Sussex Railway.
Battle - 21 miles from Camber Historic town which was the site of the 1066 Battle of Hastings. The ruined 11th Century abbey and battlefields are well worth a visit.
Canterbury - 35 miles from Camber Famous cathedral city and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Local places to visit A vast and fascinating Nature Reserve and worth a visit whether you want to discover its wildlife and habitats, explore its history or simply experience the landscape. There is fabulous wildlife to be seen at all times of the year as well as an interesting history with World War II blockhouses, a Martello Tower and Camber Castle to be explored.
East Sussex Vineyards
Whatever the weather, it is difficult not to be seduced by the beguiling beauty of nearby Romney Marshes, almost as mysterious and lonely as it was in the 17th Century when smugglers swapped local wool for brandy from France. The 100-square-mile marsh encompasses tiny villages, ancient, secluded churches and The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve.

The country's finest example of a rural light railway. The line gently wends its way from Tenterden for 10.5 miles through the unspoilt countryside of the Rother Valley to terminate at Bodiam Castle.
Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway A fabulous 15" gauge working railway covering a distance of 13.5 miles from the picturesque Cinque port of Hythe to the fishermen's cottages and lighthouses at Dungeness.

France! For something a little different, Camber is ideally situated for day trips to France. A brief 30 minute flight from nearby Lydd Airport takes one to the elegant, French resort of Le Touquet with its fantastic restaurants, vast beach and chic boutiques or in just 2.5 hours by Eurostar from nearby Ashford International station one can be in Paris in time for lunch!
Local activities Water sports Rye Water Sports - kitesurfing, windsurfing and sailing on the only large coastal lake with sea location in the South East of England. Action Water Sports - waterskiing, wakeboarding, barefooting and jetskiing at a sheltered freshwater lake in Lydd.
Swimming For swimming, Camber Sands beach boasts a yellow flag award from the MCS, the highest UK award for water quality standards. There is also a new 25m indoor pool at the Rye Sports Centre and a pool at Tenterden which includes a flume, wave machine and bubble pool.
Golf There are an incredible 44 golf courses within a 30 mile radius of Camber. Just minutes from White Sand is the famous Rye Golf Club considered to be one of the most memorable and challenging links courses in the country. Walking There are fabulous walks around the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Walking this network of paths provides an opportunity to see many species of plants and animals, a number of which are rare. As these change with the seasons, you are likely to find something different each visit. Romney Marsh has hundreds of miles of footpath which, together with quiet country lanes and bridleways. The vast High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty also has a unique, radiating network of ancient routes and tracks to explore.
Cycling Bicycles can be hired from Rye Hire. Rye Rides is a good source of local cycle rides. Romney Marsh is one of the most magical regions in England to cycle. The flat quiet country lanes with numerous church towers dotting the wide open landscape makes this far reach of Kent an ideal place to bring your bike and explore. The vast High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty also has a unique, radiating network of ancient routes and tracks to explore by bicylce.
Karting Nearby Lydd International Raceway is one of Europe's premier karting tracks. Minimotos, mud buggies, 4x4s, paintball and clay pigeon shooting are also on offer.
