Jack's Cottage is a delightful one-bedroom hideaway, nestled in the grounds of the Tillmouth Park Hotel. The cottage is part of recent re-development of the Grade II listed former stable block belonging to the Tillmouth Park Estate. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard with a predominance of natural materials including limestone flooring, tiles and basins and granite work tops.
The use of sustainable and organic materials is continued throughout with under floor heating powered by a ground source heating pump, organic cotton bed linen and towels and the use of only natural cleaning and household products.
Guests have use of the Tillmouth Park Hotel amenities including the hotel bar, bistro and award-winning restaurant which boasts two AA Rosettes.* Afternoon cream teas in one of the elegant lounges are also popular. There are superb walks leading from the cottage along the beautiful River Till valley, up to the romantic ruins of Twizel Castle or along the banks of the famous River Tweed.
The local area offers unrivalled walking, cycling and riding in miles of untouched countryside ranging from gentle river valleys, the rugged beauty of the Cheviot Hills to the 25 miles of protected golden sands and secluded rocky coves that make up the Heritage coastline. The region is also a golfer's paradise with 16 courses within a 30 mile radius.
There is an array of places to visit nearby including the unique Holy Island of Lindisfarne, elegant stately homes, the evocative ruins of ancient abbeys and a chain of castles, including Bamburgh, Alnwick and Floors, that are reminders of the rich and often bloody history of the region. Many local landmarks are reflected in the fabulous images of the local area taken by the owner's father which adorn the walls in the cottage.
The cottages are 3 miles from Cornhill-on-Tweed which offers an excellent village shop and delicatessen and the newly-renovated Collingwood Arms bar, bistro and restaurant. Just over the Tweed in Scotland is the historic town of Coldstream which has a good selection of pubs, cafes and local shops, including a butcher, baker and grocer. The charming, ancient towns of Berwick-upon-Tweed and Kelso are also nearby and Edinburgh is an easy day trip either 1¼ hours by car or 45 minutes on the train from Berwick.
To sleep 10 guests, Jack's Cottage can be let in conjunction with adjacent Groom's Cottage by unlocking a secure internal door.
The accommodation at Jack's Cottage is all on the ground floor and is suitable for elderly or mobility-impaired guests.
*NB The hotel is not open over the 2008 Christmas period.
