The River Tweed has a deserved reputation as one of the world's finest salmon rivers and produces more fish caught to the fly than any other river in Britain.  Garden House is ideally located for anyone fishing the bottom and lower Tweed beats between Berwick and Kelso.  In addition to the Milne Graden fishings, there are several prime beats within a ten minute drive from the house including Tillmouth, Lennel and The Lees.

The Milne Graden Fishings

The Milne Graden Upper and Lower beats extend to about 1.4 miles of left bank fishing at the centre of which lies the stunning policies of Milne Graden House. The combined Upper and Lower beats have 7 named pools. A former stone fishing shiel on the Upper beat has been converted to a comfortable fishing hut with open fire and w/c. There is good vehicle access to the fishing shiel from where access to the Upper beat is on foot and there is good access on foot or by four-wheel drive to the Lower beat.

The Estate has recently changed hands and the fishing let for the first year of the new ownership has now been taken back in hand. It is now being managed by Bob Miller with the benefit of 25 years experience and knowledge of the beat. He will meet rods on the first morning of their booking to show the river and provide guidance as necessary.

Milne Graden benefits from its proximity to the tidal waters resulting in a reasonable run of spring fish in addition to the late summer and autumn runs. The beat fishes particularly well in lower water conditions where other beats further upstream might struggle and also in higher water conditions. Fish are regularly caught when the river level is 3 feet on the Norham gauge.

Milne Graden is primarily a salmon beat but has good runs of grilse and sea trout through the summer months. In fact over the years Milne Graden has developed a reputation as an excellent sea trout fishery.

There is fishing for two rods until the first week of September after which 3 rods may fish. Fishing is from the bank, wading or from one of the three boats.

Until 1st week of September a ghillie will be provided by prior arrangement only. At least 14 days advance notice must be given to Bob Miller in order to make arrangements. After 3rd September two ghillies are provided and included with the price.

Please note that bookings are for a minimum one rod for three days and that taking spring fishing gives the tenant first refusal for an eventual autumn week.

All fishing arrangements at Milne Graden are subject to availability and prior booking direct with the Estate Manager David Platt 01361 882920
