It has to be said that Northumberland is up there with the very best. With more than 30 miles of stunning white sandy beaches, beautiful islands and hidden coves it has rightly been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Heritage Coast. The Northumberland Coast is spectacular and very special and just across the Scottish Border, St Abbs and Eyemouth offer diving that is truly world class.
An event not to be missed is the wonderful Borders Book Festival. This outstanding literary festival has been welcoming some of the world’s greatest writers, communicators and entertainers to Harmony Gardens in Melrose for the last eleven years.
The Scottish Borders alone boasts over 1,500 miles of walking routes where you can step back in time, discover landscapes that have inspired literary masterpieces and choose between challenging long distance routes and short country rambles. Northumberland is home to two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the North Pennines and the Northumberland Coast and of course a National Park which alone has more than 600 miles of way marked footpaths and bridleways to choose from.
Crabtree & Crabtree are an agency with luxury holiday properties located along the length of the Tweed, in both the Scottish Borders and Northumberland. So we thought it would be fun to take a journey along this lovely river and pick out some of our favourite things to see and do on the way.
