Art Classes & Workshops

Enquiry>

The rich landscape and seascape of the Borders and Northumberland is a wonderful source of inspiration for art lovers and a peaceful haven for those seeking to explore their creative side.

It provides a perfect opportunity to combine a leisurely stay visiting local studios and galleries with a little artistic learning by joining an art class or workshop led by a renowned local artist.

Classes can be held in the relaxed surroundings of your holiday home, out-and-about enjoying the stunning local countryside or at a dedicated studio space in the area.

Gill Walton

Gill Walton is a practicing, professional artist since graduating with honours with a fine arts degree in 1989. In addition to producing her own work and lecturing in fine art and life drawing, Gill runs a vibrant range of art courses from her Allanbank Arts Studio near to Duns in the Scottish Borders.

Set in beautiful 18th century courtyard buildings in three acres of tranquil gardens, it is an idyllic spot to learn new skills or refine your technique in new art disciplines or media.

You can join one of the designated art courses at Allanbank or perhaps enjoy some private tutoring and mentoring from the comfort of your holiday home - the choice is entirely yours. Classes can be designed to match your group’s skills and interests, including Watercolour, Life Drawing, Border Landscapes, Walk and Create, or for a younger audience -Young Picassos!

A wide range of techniques and media can be covered including printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and casting. You can contact Gill through her website or call her on 07702 811374.

Annabel Milne

Annabel Milne has lived in North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders for 25 years after studying at St. Martin’s College of Art in London, then Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art where she gained an MA in Fine Art & Art History.  She has worked at Tate Britain, in art publishing and art education, and is a qualified art teacher.

Annabel exhibits locally as well as in Edinburgh and London and draws inspiration for her pieces from the coast and surrounding landscape, as well as animals, wildlife, interiors and people.

In addition to her private art work, she runs classes from her studio near to the coastal village of Coldingham which has spectacular views over stunning countryside to the Cheviots beyond.

A range of media, materials and subjects are covered, including painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture with classes and workshops to suit all ages and abilities.

Annabel would be delighted to discuss your individual requirements, and you can reach her through her website, or call on 01890 771788.

Deborah Campbell

Deborah studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1983 to 1987, before moving to the Scottish Borders in 2006 where she has a studio in the picturesque market town of Peebles.

Her work is an exploration and expression of the coastal landscape of Scotland, taking inspiration from the detail that occurs through the interaction of the land and sea.

She enjoys working outside responding directly to the subject using acrylics and watercolours, and these studies later go on to inform paintings and textiles in her studio. With the Scottish weather, no two days are the same and the constant shifting light makes painting outdoors an exciting and challenging process.

Her textile work takes her into more detail and is inspired by the activity of beachcombing where she studies the shoreline looking for various curiosities that have been washed in with the tide.

Deborah offers classes and workshops in the following disciplines, and can join you at your holiday home or out on location. You can contact her through her website or call on 07775 665771 for a friendly chat about your requirements.
