Goshen Cottage Kelso

Book Now >
Centrally located in the picturesque town of Kelso, Goshen Cottage has been lovingly restored by the owners to a high standard throughout and is perfectly positioned for exploring Kelso and the wider Scottish Borders.

Belying its period exterior, the deceptively spacious, contemporary interior includes some delightful architectural features which add character and charm. In the sitting room there’s a fabulous slate stack wall with wood burning stove for cosy evenings in, while during the warmer months, French doors lead to the pretty, enclosed garden with all-weather artificial turf, seating area and barbecue - an idyllic sheltered, sunny spot just perfect for Pimms!

The dining room seats six people comfortably and a Victorian cast-iron fireplace provides an elegant focal feature to the room. The smart, shaker-style kitchen comes very well equipped and a vibrant splashback adds a pop of colour. Upstairs there’s an opulent master bedroom with an adjoining single room for a child, a family bathroom with huge bath and an additional single bedroom on a mezzanine level. A pull-out double bed in the sitting room is also available at no additional fee.

Activities & attractions

The property is located a two minute walk from Kelso’s charming cobbled town square, once described by Sir Walter Scott as ‘the most beautiful if not the most romantic village in Scotland’. Today it retains much of that charm and remains one of the most attractive and scenic towns in the region with its Flemish-style square and rich Georgian and Victorian architecture. You will find excellent local amenities here and a super range of independent shops where you are guaranteed some friendly chats along the way. There is a good range of pubs, bars and restaurants serving everything from a pie and a pint to fine local produce.

The town is synonymous with fishing sitting on the confluence of the rivers Tweed and Teviot and spanned by the architecturally significant Rennie Bridge completed in 1803. Some of the finest salmon fishing can be found on Tweed and as a result it attracts visitors from all over the world in pursuit of this prized fish. You will find fishing to suit all levels and budgets so if you are a fan of the piscatorial art, rod, reel and line should definitely feature on your holiday checklist. For golf enthusiasts, Kelso Golf Club sits just on the edge of town alongside the famous Kelso Race Course, while the championship Roxburghe Course sits just 3 miles from the town. Alternatively, there are over 60 clubs to choose from across the wider area including challenging links courses, PGA and stunning parkland settings.

Floors Castle, the majestic home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe, sits on the edge of the town and visitors can take a tour of the castle led by knowledgeable guides who will introduce you to the history of this exceptional residence and its priceless collection of fine art, tapestries and porcelain. Enjoy lunch at the Terrace Cafe, take a wander through the stunning grounds of the estate and the pretty walled garden centre, followed perhaps by a visit to the stately homes of Manderston, Mellerstain, Paxton House or Abbotsford which are all close by.

For walking, cycling and riding, there are hundreds of miles of quiet country lanes, waymarked routes and forest trails to explore from short gentle meanders to long distance trails, taking in the outstanding scenery of the Cheviot Hills, the Pennine Way and Dere Street. The Borders Abbeys Way takes in the magnificent monastic ruins of Kelso Abbey, while the Kelso to Roxburgh circular is a scenic 3 hour walking route taking in historic sites of interest and plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities along the way.

For family friendly activities, Shedden Park is just a hop, step and a jump away from Goshen Cottage with a play park, skate park and plenty of green open space for running around. Kelso swimming pool and fitness studio is just a five minute walk from the property where adults can join a yoga or Kettlercise class while children take part in boot-camp, aquatics camp or enjoy some inflatable fun. The town has an ice-rink which is open during the winter months for curling and skating, and a dance studio sits nearby with everything from hip-hop to jazz!

"We found Goshen Cottage to be a high standard of accommodation. We appreciated the welcome pack of essentials! The log burner and Jamie Oliver BBQ was the icing on the cake. We look forward to staying with Crabtree & Crabtree again and already recommended Goshen Cottage to friends and family." - Bentley

"We had a fantastic time, even the weather was better than forecasted and the garden got plenty of use too. It is a great house for a group of friends to go too, plenty of space for all the girls to spread about and perfect sleeping arrangements for us. We had no comments to improve the house and no criticisms at all. One of the things we loved the most was the proximity to the town, we were up and down a few times every day dittering about. We will definitely be booking this property again. The Crabtree & Crabtree website is my favourite cottage website." - Mackay
