Overview

When the draw of sea, sand and big sky views come calling, the location of Beachcomber Cottage will be the star attraction.

Enjoy relaxed beach living and glorious coastal views

Sitting on the glorious golden sands of Goswick, this is a place where you can avoid the crowds and enjoy relaxed beach living with plenty of warming touches when the weather draws in.

Life here moves at a calm and gentle pace with little to interrupt the day. Here your very own sandy adventure playground is just a stone’s throw away where you can enjoy unhurried days with breakfast on the beach watching soaring kite surfers, or wander never-ending sands until the sun goes down.

Sitting at the end of a no-through road, the cottage has been decorated in a fresh, nautical style with a characterful beamed sitting room with sofa bed which can accommodate an extra 2 guests, and a homely dining kitchen where you can throw another log in the wood burner and relax in cosy, coastal comfort.

The cottage has two bright, sunny bedrooms on the first floor (one super-king and one twin) where large Velux windows have been positioned to take advantage of the exceptional sea views.

To the rear of the cottage, you can reach the beach in less than a minute, and walkers and cyclists will delight at its position on the path of the Sandstone Way and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Golfers also have ample opportunity to perfect their game on the superb but testing conditions of Goswick links course which sits right next door.

Location

The cottage sits next to many close visitor attractions with local services nearby, including the wonderful Barn at Beal which is an easy 20 minute walk from the property for lingering lunches savouring the catch-of-the-day or informal evening dining while enjoying panoramic views of Holy Island.

A 14 minute drive will take you to The Black Bull Inn at Lowick, a warm and welcoming pub with restaurant, which offers scrumptious evening dining and Sunday lunch.

The charming Ford & Etal Estate is 12.7 miles away and has a range of delightful tearooms and small independent shops, as well as The Black Bull pub where you can enjoy a filling pub lunch with a refreshing ale, brewed just 2 minutes up the road on the estate.

More extensive amenities can be found in the Elizabethan walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (6 miles) Head to Bridge Street in the town, where a thriving street full of small independent names and quirky shops can be found. From an eco-friendly retail shop and wool studio to a music shop and gallery, there is something for everyone on this community lead street. Popular deli The Mule on Rouge will delight the foodie amongst you, along with Atelier and Mavi Turskish Restaurant, which offer scrumptious evening dining. Enjoy craft beers and fine wines at The Curfew Micropub, a popular spot for the locals, but the small doorway on Bridge Street is easily missed by newcomers.

For further food delights, you will not be short for options. The area has a rich food heritage and there is something to cater for all tastes and budgets here. Enjoy tasty fish and chips on the promenade, cosy pubs, characterful cafes including Northern Edge Coffee and The Corner House, or bistro restaurants such as The Maltings Kitchen and The Queen's Head serving tempting light-bites or a pre-theatre dinner.

Three large supermarkets including a Marks & Spencers food outlet sit on the edge of town. Alternatively, why not pop the wine in the fridge and arrange for a platter of seafood to be delivered straight to your door by the Berwick Shellfish Company - oysters reared in the clear North Sea beds of Lindisfarne, lightly smoked kippers from traditional local smokehouses, or perhaps some freshly dressed lobster or langoustines - perfect for a romantic evening in!

Activities

Sitting in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the Lindisfarne Nature Reserve, nature lovers, birdwatchers and photographers will be captivated by the vast variety of wildlife and birdlife right on the doorstep. This is a spectacular stretch for migrant and wading birds, including regular visitors such as Sandpipers, Shelduck, and Teal. In the evening, wrap up and head down to the beach with a warming hot chocolate to experience big sky views and some amazing sunsets.

Nearby Holy Island is a hot spot for vast numbers of migrant bird species, including the chance to see the odd grey seal bobbing inquisitively in the sea or basking on the sand flats, while sightings of minke whales and white-beaked dolphins can also be spotted here in calm sea conditions. Alternatively take a boat trip from Seahouses (19 miles) where you will be enthralled by the thousands of breeding sea-birds and seals taking up every square foot of this incredible rocky outcrop, including over 37,000 pairs of characterful Puffins.

Walking and cycling in this area is a delight with an abundance of trails and waymarked routes suitable for all ages and abilities from family routes, leisure routes, and mountain biking trails with everything from easy coastal stretches to high energy treks along the course of the Sandstone Way which sits right on the doorstep.

The beach here is a wonderful spot for families, walkers and water sports enthusiasts with some amazing conditions for kite surfing and sand yachting when the wind starts to blow.

Alternatively, cross the causeway to Holy Island to trace the legend of St. Cuthbert; head to Craster to sample their legendary oak smoked kippers; visit the beautiful gardens at Howick Hall; or head inland to experience the medieval splendour of Alnwick Castle with its fantastic child-friendly activity programme inspired by the wizardly magic and broomstick antics of Harry Potter.

The whole area is bursting with things to do, dotted by a trail of castles and fortifications interspersed with pretty seaside villages all the way up and down the coast. Head to Bamburgh (16 miles) where the dramatic outline of the castle is visible from miles around, and a visit will allow you to experience over two thousand years of fascinating history with dark tales of royal rebellion, turbulent battles, and stories of powerful legend and folklore.
